When I was younger my mother would tell me that thunder was the angels bowling in heaven. She told me that every flash of lighting was the pictures being taken by the angels so that they can remember the fun time they had. As you get older and become a teenager you realize that the angels were not bowling in heaven or taking pictures. Still although that may not be true you still smile when ever the rain begins to pour down. I woke that morning to an exciting bowling game and many pictures to go along with them. The rain came crashing down on my window and woke me up before my alarm can sound. Unlike many people I loved the rain. To me it washed away the old and brought in the new.
I got up from my bed and walked like a zombie to my bathroom. I turned on the light and looked in the mirror. I wasn't surprise to discover that my bed head looked like a birds nest. With my crazy hair it was hard to keep it in place. I turned on the water and threw it on my face. I patted it dry and then began to brush my teeth. I settled with leaving my hair in high ponytail since the rain would only make my hair even crazier. To be quite honest I rarely ever left my hair down.
I settled on wearing my skinny jeans, black and white Marilyn Monroe shirt, and my converse. Thankfully my father would be taking me and picking me up from school so I didnt have to walk in this down pour. I can smell the heavenly french toast all the way from my bed room. My father was not only a bait shop owner, but when he was not selling someone worms he was an amazing cook. He could open up a resturant if he really wanted to but my dad would never give up his bait shop for anything in the world.
I ran downstairs to reach the french toast before my older brother Jared reached them. If he got there before me, I would have no choice but to have to watch him eat all the french toast my father made.Reaching the kitchen I discovered that I got there before Jared. That either meant that Jared had one of his late nights or he still wasn't home. Jared was always partying, He was always out drinking, and having too much fun with too much girls. In fact last summer one girl, known as the town slut believed she was pregnant. Even though she wasnt you would still expect it to be a wake up call for Jared, but he was back to partying in no time.
As if on cue Jared walked into the kitchen with sunglasses on. He looked a mess his hair was all over the place and his clothes looked slept in. Grabbing a plate Jared sat right next to me and grabbed four pieces of french toast.
"Hey sis." he said. The alcohol on his breath hit me like a punch in the face. Dad learned how to ignore Jared and his rebellous teenage acts. Everytime he would mention it they would just break out into an argument. Whenever that would happen Jared would always mention our mother. Dad would get even more pissed and ground Jared but it never worked cause Jared would always find a way out the house. What was worse about these arguments was the after math. Dad always put on a stong wall up when ever my mother was mentioned and not breakdown. But late at night you could still hear his sobs. I guess in all reality thats why he ignored Jared and all his stupid acts.
After breakfast Jared,my dad, and I ran into the car so that we can head to school. It was a quiet ride and what was even stranger was that dad had been quiet the entire morning.
"Hey dad why so quiet this morning? You alright?" I asked.
"Yea sweetie just alot going on." my dad said looking at me through the rearview mirror.
"Anything you might wanna talk about?" I said trying to keep him talking so that the awkward silence in the car would not return.
"Its nothing to worry about sweetie everything will be aright." My dad said again looking at me through the mirror.
"Problems, problems, always problems." I heard Jared say from the back seat. I turned around and gave Jared a deathly stare and at the same time mouthed the words "Cut It Out." Jared being Jared just looked at me and smiled. He was really such a prick sometimes. Finally arriving at school I was happy to be there before Jared could start a stupid inappropriate argument with my dad. I kissed my dad on the cheek and told him I would wait for him after school.
Before me and Jared went our seperate ways in school I stopped him and reached into my bag. I pulled out three pieces of gum and some advil.
"Here take this, last thing we need is you getting suspended again." I said handing him the items.
"Thanks sis you always help me out." He said then popped the advil in his mouth.
"Yea, shouldnt that be the other way around. You know maybe you should grow up, and start treating dad like well I don't know your dad." I said to my brother as he popped the minty gum into his mouth.
"Not you now, you sound just like him. You guys cant just ever leave me alone and accept me." He said with irritantion in his voice.
"Well Jared it's just that your eight-teen and graduating in a few months and still act like a irresponsible child. Plus you treat dad like he some random nobody on the street how do you think that makes him feel coming from his son, his only son?" I said almost yelling.
"Oh what ever its to early in the morning for this bullshit and I've got a horrible headache I dont need you giving me another one." Jared said walking away.
"Walk away thats all you ever do Jared that exactly what I mean." I said yelling at him from down the hall.
As if he didnt hear me Jared kept walking and headed into the cafe. After a few minutes I followed in his foot steps and walked into the cafe. I sat in my usual table and said not a word. Everyone else was having conversations about how there weekend had been and what parties they attended. Klara my best friend realizing my slump quickly payed her attention to me.
"Hey Ana how was your weekend?" Klara said to me, but she already knew the answer to that question.
"Well not much different from last weekend really." I said shrugging my shoulders. My weekends were pretty much the same. All I really did was take care of an irresponsible older brother. My brother had to be the deffiniton of reckless and careless. He honestly could care less about any form of responsiblity, and authority. He did what he wanted, when he wanted just because, well just because he was Jared. If I didnt have to constantly take care of him like he was some abandoned puppy then I would not care about what Jared did in his free time. What's even worse is when Jared tells me about his irresponsible behavior. I Know every single girl in school that my brother has been sex with and every disgusting detail.I even know every drug he has ever taken. Me and my brother literaly had a switched role relationship. It was more like I was the older sibling and he was the rebellious younger sibling who craved attention.
Karla shook her head. She had to be the only girl in school who didn't want to either sleep with my brother or marry him. That's only because she knows and seen his ugly side. To every other dumb blonde, and slutty brunette he was the sexy bad boy. Not that Jared hasn't tried getting with Klara, I mean lets be honest not only did Jared hit on just about everyone but Klara was actually really freaking beautiful. But even though Klara was a blonde that did not mean she was stupid like the rest of them who would practicly drool at the sight of my brother.
The bell rang and like always the cafe became a heard of students either rushing to get to class or rushing or rushing to cut class. I had homeroom and first period with Klara and my other best friend Luke. Walking in our school hallways was like walking in the middle of time square. You always seemed to bump into someone or have someone taking their sweet, sweet time to get to class. Finally arriving at homeroom Luke, Klara, and I sat in our usually seats.
"It's not even first period and I want school to be over already." Luke said resting his head on the desk.
"Oh please Luke you always hate Mondays." I said chuckling and patting his head. Luke looked up at me His blue eyes glistening in the light. His snady brown hair fell perfectly just above his eyes. He smiled his killer smile and shook his head.
"I think everyone does not just me Ana." He said with a chuckle and then winked. I shook my head yet again and then turned to face Klara. She was to busy focusing on her Algebra homework to pay any attention to what me and Luke were talking about. Mrs.Valentine came in late to class as always juggling her bag and students papers. She was a sweet middle aged women who always seemed to be running around and way to busy.
"Sorry I'm late, Car troubles. Now if only I can find my Atendence book." Mrs.Valentine said searching through her bag, and looking on her desk. Mrs.Valentine had moved over a few papers and her coffee had begun to freefall towards the ground until a hand grabbed it in mid-air.
"Oh thank you,Young man, and You are." Mrs.Valentine said looking up. I could just about feel everyone person in that class room look up.
"I'm Slater. Slater Hale."
