               A Few Years Ago

Riley's POV

A cold gust of the midnight breeze brushed against my skin waking me from my deep sleep. I pinched open my eyes to find the window open, I must have forgotten to close it before I went to bed. I quickly peeled off my covers, revealing myself to the freezing cold air, and tiptoed to the window making sure I didn't wake up my sister, Elizabeth who peacefully slept in the bed across from me. I closed the window and locked it up tight scurrying back to bed. "Riley!" I hear my sister's soft voice whisper in my ear. "What is it Elizabeth?" I mumble trying to fall back asleep. " Do you hear the music of the pipe?" Elizabeth ask as I open my eyes. I waited for a second yet all I could hear was dead silence. "Elizabeth go back to bed! " I groan. "But Riley, I can't fall asleep with the pipe music!" Elizabeth complains. I sit up and stare at my sisters cold innocent face. "C'mon Elizabeth, get back to bed. I'll read you a story." I say climbing out of bed once again. " Ok,fine" She says hoping onto her bed. I delicately tuck her in then i make myself comfortable in the rocking chair that stood beside Elizabeth's bed. I turned on the lamp and asked" Which book do you want me to read?" "Ummmm, your choice." My sister replies. We only have a choice of a few books: Snow White, Robin Hood or Peter Pan. I also had some Teen Vogue magazines that I stole, but I don't think my sister would like to read it. Our current foster parents are fairly rich however they don't care to buy us any books so we've had those books before we were in the foster system. I chose Peter Pan, my favorite of the three. I've had the book since my dad left and my mom died in a car crash right after my sister was born. We now travel from foster home to foster home hoping someone would adopt us. Sometimes I think no one will ever adopt us, but this Peter Pan book that I've kept for almost my whole life has taught me something, there is always hope and a happy ending. I picked the book up from the dusty nightstand and began reading. " Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl named Wendy Darling..." Suddenly I felt a cool breeze tickle the back of my neck. I took a glance at the window, It was closed shut. I ignored it and continued reading. Almost finishing the story, I heard it. The pipe music. I startled and dropped the book as it landed with a large thud. I stood up and looked around to see where the music was coming from but it seemed like it was everywhere. "I hear it Elizabeth, the pipe music!" I say I little scared. "See, I told you there was music!" My sister says getting out of bed. "But where is it coming from!" I panic. "From there!" Elizabeth points  behind me. I slowly turn around to find a shadowy figure playing a little necklace of pipes. What is that? It can't be real! This is probably just a dream and there is no shadowy figure there! I start pinching myself hoping that I'll wake up in my bed and it was all just a dream. Sadly, it was real. "Riley, it's Peter Pan's shadow, he wants us to come to Neverland!" Elizabeth says in excitement. No, Peter Pan is just a made up story and there's no such thing as magic and Neverland. Maybe it's just a prank with really good special effects. Before I knew it Elizabeth held hands with the shadowy figure as it somehow managed to magically open the window. I couldn't believe my eyes as they lifted off the ground and started to fly. "C'mon Riley!" Elizabeth smiles in the air. They headed towards the window as I realized, maybe this was real and Elizabeth was really going to Neverland. But she couldn't go alone, I needed to go with her. The shadow was already a foot out of the window so I quickly jumped out and held on the foot of the figure. We soared off into the air in our pajamas. I looked down and saw the terrifying hight below us. With the bright street lights glowing in the dark sky, it looked amazing from all the way up here. We must have been higher than the Eiffel Tower. " Riley, this is amazing!" Elizabeth happily says. I can't believe this is actually happening. All these years I've thought magic was a silly old myth, but this it's true, magic is real! The wind blew in my face and through my hair as I looked up and saw exactly where we were going, the second star to the right.
