Chapter 1: Paint

"When I wake up, the dream isn't done.
I wanna see your face,
and know I made it home.
If nothing is true,
What more can I do?
I am still painting flowers for you." -All Time Low

"Forever?"
"Forever."
He brought his lips to hers. She wrapped her arms around him as he runs his fingers through her lown brown locks. Occasionally, his hands gets tangled in her messy hair but they continued kissing - they're pretty sure they'll have a laugh about it later.
But there was something wrong. She suddenly felt him fading. She gasped as she saw his figure turn translucent, she tried to hold him, but as her fingers brushed his cheeks, she felt nothing but the cold.
"Caleb.."
The wind blew strong, and he disappeared.

She woke up from another dream. She couldn't call it a nightmare for the dream was full of pure bliss... until it ended.
Nel didn't need to do anything anymore. She was almost used to it like a nightly routine. She didn't need to run to the her mother's room again. She remained in her bed, motionless as her tears fell onto the soft pillow. She curls herself into a ball, not wanting her silent sobs echo in her room.

The early orange color of the sun seeped through the curtain, illuminating her dark room at last.
The tears were long gone but as she stood to look at herself at the mirror, she looked like a total mess. Her eyes red and puffy, hair in a tangled mess and she was as pale as ever. Sighing, she took a towel from the rack and proceeded to the bathroom to tidy up a bit. Even though Nel knew that she would still come out red-eyed and pale out of the shower, she didn't care.
The school wasn't far away - it was only a walking distance. A part of her brain tells her to get some fresh air, take a time to admire the fresh view of this new town; so, she did. But it felt more like she was dragging herself to school than taking a gleeful promenade.
Crest High with it's tall orange buildings were quite distracting and making her nervous. Her school was never this huge back at her old town. Well, what did she expect? Crest was famous for the upbringing of most successful people of the day. Of course it's gonna look like a big university or some sort.
Even so, it was still a high school and nothing can change that. Nel could already see the groups and cliques scattered in circles or tiny groups.
She pushed back the thought of Caleb and her old home. It wasn't much now anyways. Caleb is gone. She had two best friends back home, Rose and Kalli. Rose got pulled out in the middle of their junior year because of family problems. Nel and Kalli, however, had a misunderstanding and had been ignoring each other since the end of prom.
Now, this was a new school. Another new beginning. She was a senior and would be going to college next year, but .. she could still make the best of this very last year, right?
Being her usual optimistic self was a lot harder now. She was always described back home as bubbly, loud and always cheerful but it was like a dark grey cloud was following her everywhere, covering her from the sun and the blue sky.
