Jeff watched them emerge from her room and knew immediately that he had done the right thing again. He was starting to feel like the knight in shining armour only this time the princess was going to kick the shit out of him for interfering in her life

He walked into the study and left the door slightly ajar. They needed to time to be reacquainted.

'Where are you staying?' He heard Marie ask Douglas.

'Jeff mentioned I could stay here if that is ok with you but I don't want to impose. I think I should find a hotel.'

'No, please stay.'

Jeff heard her murmur something to the old man and then the study door was pushed open. He waited for the tirade.

'Thank you.'

'You welcome'.

She ran out again to join Douglas. Two days later, Jeff was starting to feel like the third wheel. She spent all her time with her father. They spent hours talking and laughing. The similarities were astounding. They loved the same food, books and movies. The both hated the same things. He told her about dressing her in blue clothes and she showed him the blue nursery. She dragged the old man along to the next visit to the doctor so that he could see the babies on the screen. The old man burst into tears.

She was five weeks from her delivery date and for once, she was happy. Robert joined them for the weekend, which left Jeff out in the cold. He eventually went to his mother for some attention. Douglas was sleeping in his room because the nursery was now complete which left him on the couch and his neck and back were killing him.

'You surprise me more and more every day.' His mother said to him.

'Why?'

'For someone who does not intend on committing to this woman, you are really going to the ends of the earth to keep her happy.'

Jeff shrugged. 'At least I won't have things thrown at me anymore.'

He took her and Douglas out to dinner the Monday evening when the old man asked them something neither of them had thought of.

'What are you going to name them?'

They had not even considered names. Marie had bought many baby books, which Jeff had read, but they had never looked on names.

'We can think about it and decide later.' Jeff told her.

Marie being an impatient person waited for Douglas to go to bed before climbing on the couch next to Jeff. His chest tightened when she stretched her long legs out over his lap.

'Do you have any names that you like?'

'Not really. What do you have in mind?'

'I would like to name one after my sister.'

'And the other one?'

'Jessica'

Jeff nodded. 'I like the names.'

She got up and then turned back and hugged him. 'I am sorry for being such a grouch the last few days. I really do appreciate everything you do for me.'

'So you won't be throwing vases at me anymore?'

She grinned wickedly. 'Who knows?'

He grabbed her hand. 'Are you tired?'

'Not really. Why?'

'Stay and chat to me for a bit. I feel as though I have not seen you in days.'

Marie realized that they had not spoken or been alone since her father arrived. She threw herself down in the same position.

'How are things going at work?'
