'Jeffrey, are we going out tonight or not?' he hated it when Sienna put on her whining voice.
'I told you I have work to do. Why don't you go out with your friends?'
'If I wanted to spend time with them, I would. I came here so that we can spend time together and you have been ignoring me.'
Sienna was getting annoyed. She was used to being a social butterfly and attending glitzy events but Jeff had refused to go anywhere since she arrived. He would sit at that damned desk and worked until all hours of the night. At this very moment, he was watching the couple across the road play with their kids.
'What is so special about them that you are always watching them?'
'Who are you talking about?'
'Them' she pointed out of the window. 'You are always watching them.'
'I am not watching them. I am concentrating and you are not helping with your constant prattling.'
He was regretting the decision to let her stay with him. They had their fun but now he was ready to move on. He did not believe in long term relationships and Sienna had been around too long. She was starting to get ideas and he did not want to resume their physical relationship.
'If you are going to be grumpy all night then take me to Evalina. I am sure she will have some planned for the evening.'
Marie and Robert were playing catch with Aimee and Aiden when Jeff's car reversed and drove past them. There was a woman in the front seat with him that Marie had seen arriving the day after Mattie had left. All she could make out was blonde hair and pouty lips before the car went speeding down the road. She smiled at the thought that a grown man had to keep his living arrangements with a woman a secret from his mother.
When Jeff returned, the usual cars were parked at the house opposite him. They had a close knit of friends who visited every weekend. Turning into his driveway, he almost drove over a little pink bicycle. He braked just in time to avoid driving over it. The kids were standing further up his driveway.
'You see. I told you to move the bike from his driveway but you wouldn't listen to me.' Aiden was scolding his sister. 'Now we are going to be in trouble.'
Jeff was used to kids; he had five nephews so when Aimee began to cry he was took command of the situation with ease. He knelt down to speak to her while Aiden ran to pick up the bike.
'Don't cry Aimee. Look, your bike is fine.'
'Mommy is going to be cwoss because we almost bwoke your car. We were trying to catch Mrs. O'Connor's kitty.' she sniffed.
Val looked out of the window to check up on the kids and saw Jeff talking to them in his driveway.
'Bloody hell, those kids are in the sexy neighbor's property.' She walked outside and started shouting. 'What are the two of you doing on this property and you had better have a damned good excuse or I am going to tan your hides.'
Jack walked across the road when he heard Val shouting. He was the calmer parent and the one who always managed to smooth over any situation the kids got themselves into.
'Why are the two of you here?' Then he turned to Aiden. 'What have I told you about watching your sister?'
'It is not my fault. She always gets us into trouble.''
'I'm so sorry.' Val apologized.
'No harm done.' Jeff felt bad that the little girl was crying quite earnestly.
'You two are going to turn me into an alcoholic.' Val turned to go back inside. 'Your dad can sort you out.'
'We are on our way to the rugby and two of our friends had to cancel. Would you like to join us in the box?' Jack asked.
