***NIALLS POV***
I took a deep breath and looked back at Harry. He smiled reassuringly at me. The snow coated us in white while we stood by the door. I reached my hand out to knock. My hands were shaking partly from the cold that invaded me, and my horrible nerves.
I have never felt so nervous, and that must mean this is real. I actually do have something for her, it's not just a little crush.
Maybe she will be my Princess....
No don't think about that yet...
I reached my hand out and knocked. When she opened the door her face lit up. She was in sweatpants and a T-shirt that said UofM on it, and looked beautiful still.
"Hey Nialler! Hey Haz! I didn't know both of you were coming, but that's fine" she smiled, "come in"
We walked in and I noticed a large man sitting in the love seat.
"Well actually...." I spoke up, "I came to ask you something.." Harry winked at me and walked over to Joy, to give us privacy. "Ok" she answered and waited for me to talk. Her facial expressions made it so easy to figure out what she was thinking; she was nervous. I hope she couldn't tell that I am more nervous than she is. I thought about how stupid I would look if she knew I was nervous, I need to be confident.
"Can I take you out tonight, Rose? On a date?" I finally asked. Her face changed but it wasn't how I wanted it to change. Instead of excited and happy all it read was disappointed.
"Niall... I'm sorry. That sounds lovely, but-" I frowned and cut her off.
"But you like me as a friend?" I finished her sentence. I knew the sentence would end like this... it happened to the last girl that I thought could be my Princess. So my heart dropped again, and so did my face. Her face looked panicked as I said this.
"NO! No, no! That's not it at all! I mean... It's just Joy and my dad can't be here alone," she said in a hushed voice, probably so her dad wouldn't hear her. This made a wide grin come to my face again.
"Well, I brought a babysitter," I smirked and nodded my head to Harry, who gave us a thumbs up. She still frowned though. Once again my heart dropped. What a roller coaster it's with her and she hasn't even answered me yet.
"But my dad." She whispered, "Harry can't watch him, that doesn't make anyone happy.",
"Except me! I'll be happy"
She giggled, "of course you will, Nialler! But no one else!"
She wouldn't be happy?
"Alright... Umm. We should-" I started.
"Oh gosh! Niall! That wasn't what you think it meant! I would be very happy to go on a date with you but, Harry and my dad will hate me!" She quickly said.
"Huh? I won't hate you!" Harry butted in.
"Rose?" The man called as he slowly, non gracefully, got out of the chair.
"I will stay here if you go out with Niall. Now introduce us," Harry said.
"Please?" I pleaded.
"Fine." She slightly smiled, "but if Harry hates me I blame you!" She answered me.
"Yay!" Harry said.
I stood there smiling triumphantly.
After she introduced us to her dad and we politely told him our names and what we do, Rose left to change into something nicer. When she came out she wore jeans and a sweater. Her light brown hair lay perfectly on her shoulders, and her eyes framed in a small amount of mascara. She kissed Joy on the forehead and told her to obey Harry. Then she told her dad that he can't leave the house, and he can sleep because Harry would watch Joy. She hugged Harry and told him to watch her dad but don't order him around. She told him thank you and then walked over to me. I stretched out my hand and she carefully grabbed it, a warmth entered into my body as we walk out of her apartment hand in hand. I led her into the old elevator, and out of the apartment building. The cold quickly spread through our bones. We both shivered even after we sat in the car.
"Where to?" She asked. I looked at her with a raised eyebrow, "a surprise?"
I nodded and grinned. The heat in the car was turned all the way up as we drove to our destination. We didnt talk much, but it wasn't awkward. I sang to the radio as she watched me admiringly. We got downtown Detroit. It was a dying city. The houses were crap and the buildings were broken. There was one nice place though, a restaurant.
A nice steakhouse called, Coach Insignia. She smiled when she saw the fancy restaurant. We looked very casual in out blue jeans and me in a dark polo, but didn't care. I opened her door for her and she stepped out after thanking me. When we were seated we started talking. I told her about how we had some time off and could stay in Detroit or go to our next tour spot. We choose Detroit because everyone loved Rose ,Joy, and Michigan. She thought that was nice of us, and thanked me way too many times. We ordered a RibEye steak to share and some fries and a salad. I let her take first pick when we got our food and she took smaller portions. I decided to keep a conversation coming and a question popped into my head.
"So when you texted me, you said life could be better... What is wrong?" I ask.
She looked down at her plate frowning, "My dad can't go back to the nursing home cause he started a fire. They won't let him back until I pay for the damage. I lost my job at Walgreens and Joy has a cold and can't sleep keeping me up all night, and I can't get a job because I didn't graduate highschool and can't leave home..."
"Rose... I'm sorry. Is there anything I can do to help you? Pay for some damages? Hire someone to watch your dad? Hire you somewhere?"
She smiled up at me, "Thanks Niall, you are the best, but I hate asking so much from you,"
I smiled lightly at her. I will help her, no matter what she says.
***ROSE POV***
The date was going wonderfully. He was a gentleman but sort of shy. He was perfect, the least self serving person I know. Harry was so sweet for watching Joy and my dad, but I feel bad for him... My dad is a scary guy, unless he likes you. My dad will tell Harry so many stories today, and if they ever talk again, my dad won't know Harry's name and will tell the same stories.
I love my dad but he really isn't my dad anymore. He used to be full of life but now he just sits in his chair and complains.
"Rosiiiieee!" Niall sang as we ate in silence.
"Nialllleerrrr?" I sang back. We both laughed. The twinkle in his blue eyes never failed to show when he laughed. We sat there staring at eachother smiling. His smile started faltering and I wondered what he was thinking about. He seemed to a conversation in his head with himself as his face changed but he still watched me.
"Are you finished with your food?" He questioned. I nodded and watched him.
His warm smile was gone.
"What is up, Niall?"
He looked surprised. He must have thought I didn't notice his mood change but I did, "I'm fine!" He forced a smile. He tried to sound fine but I could see through him. I couldn't see through people normally but Niall was an open book. I didn't push him with the question. He payed for the meal, and we walked into the cold air.
"This date isn't over." Niall smirked genuinely happy again. I smiled up at him. He was perfect...
We got into his car again and the heat, once again, was put at full blast. His arm rested on the arm rest in between us. Mine rested next to it. From the corner of his eye he was watching me, looking nervous.
"Where-" I started. And his laugh cut me off mid sentence.
"You already know the answer Love..." He chuckled,"I was just waiting for you to ask."
I sheepishly smiled at him.
He was perfect...
