We were mere yards away from my new room when Glenn peeked his head out into the hallway.
"Hey! I thought I heard someone!" He said cheerfully before his eyes wandered down to our entwined hands.
Daryl immediately dropped my hand as if it'd burned him. He scowled and thrust my bag into Glenn's arms before stalking away.
"Uhhh....?" Glenn trailed off questioningly.
"Sorry about that." I sighed and took my bag from him.
I walked into our room, Glenn close behind. I tossed my bag on one of the two crisply made beds.
"Soooo...what was that about?"
"What?" I let my tone sound innocent.
He just looked at me with an eyebrow raised.
I sighed. "Please don't tell anybody about the hand thing. I...just, I don't know whats going on right now."
He nodded understandingly. "I promise I won't say anything," I breathed a slight sigh of relief, "iiiiif you tell me whats going on with you and the other redneck"
My face automatically flushed. He had to mean Merle and honestly, I just didn't want to talk about what was going on, heck, if I knew what was going on. But Glenn seemed so genuine and nice, like someone I could really be friends with, someone I could confide in. How would I even start to explain?
When I didn't immediately answer, Glenn flushed and started fidgeting nervously.
"Um, you don't have to tell me, I didn't mean to pry, sorry" He mumbled looking down at his clutched hands intensely.
I cleared my throat. "Um, no its ok."
I shut the door quietly and sat on the edge of the bed.
"The other redneck you're referring to, would that be the one who sat next to me at breakfast?"
Glenn nodding hastily.
"That would be Merle, Daryl's, the guy who walked here with me, brother. He just kind of doesn't seem to realized that I hate his guts. He's just, um, really sleazy." I stared in my lap and wrung my hands nervously.
I didn't know how to completely explain the situation, but Glenn seemed to think that was it.
"He seems like a douche bag."
I giggled unnaturally, probably from the stress of the topic. "Oh he definitely is. You don't even know." I said.
Sweeping the awkward topic behind us, we chatted randomly about our lives before and about ourselves in general. After a while, it seemed Glenn's curiosity won out.
"Sooo......really, what is up with you and Daryl?"
"Awesome question," I sighed "I really don't have a clue."
"One of those things, eh?"
"Yup."
"If you, ya know, need someone talk to...I'm always willing to listen."
A smile came onto my face at his words-a small, happy, genuine smile. Glenn was easy to be with and comfortable to talk to.
"I just might take you up on that, thanks."
He smiled back. "Its getting late. They're probably ready to start dinner, we should go see if we can help."
Nodding in agreement, I stood up. He did the same and held his hand out to me.
