"Hannah!" Mrs. Henson's voice snapped me out of my dream.

"Yes?" I said, sounding obviously sluggish.

"You fell asleep I'm my class again! If you would sleep at night we wouldn't fave this problem daily."

Maybe I could sleep at night if I didn't have to constantly guard myself in my own home.

"I'm sorry Mrs. Henson. It won't happen again." I told her.

"Hannah, you are a smart young lady. Despite your hatred for my class, you happen to be one of my favorite students and I see a lot of potential in you. Don't let your future slip out of your grasp. Okay?" Mrs. Henson asked.

I was shocked. I thought our hatred was mutual but I guess not. Nobody had ever seen potential in me before.

"That uh.. that means a lot to me, Mrs. Henson. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you." I said as I walked out of her classroom.

"Han! Wait up!" Becca yelled as I hurried down the hall.

I spun around and waited for her to catch up.

"Hurry up, Bec. I can't get another tardy." I said as my best friend rushed to join me.

"Relax love. A tardy is not a big deal." She told me with a laugh.

It is when your mom beats you for using too much ketchup.

"I know but I don't want detention okay?" I snapped at her.

Even though Becca was my best friend, she knew nothing about my mother. Nobody did.

"What's up whore?" An all too familiar voice called.

"Jonah..." I said, letting his name trail off.

"Sorry. I meant to say Hannah but they basically mean the same thing." He taunted with a laugh.

"Jonah.. please stop. My day has already been bad enough. Your bullying isn't helping.." I practically whispered.

"Bullying? Oh please. You only wish I would waste enough of my time on you to bully you." Jonah replied.

Ouch.

My wrists began to burn. They needed relief and they needed it now.

"Thanks Jonah..." I whispered as I ran down the hall and out of the school.
