Peridot sighed as she was walking through the streets of Beach City with Lapis by her side. It was getting dark and everyone was locking up. Lapis seemed a little nervous.
"Peridot, shouldn't we get back to the temple? It's getting late." Peridot nodded.
"Yea, lets-" she stopped however when she realized how late it actually was. The two were both on the other side of town, away from the temple.

Peridot gulped and Lapis looked at her in fear.
"J-just keep walking. We'll get back." Tonight was the first night the humans were trying a new system. Purge Night. Inspired by the films; news articles had read; specialists claim it could really work! Release the beast!
Peridot walked quicker and took Lapis hand. They made some distance but both of them froze as a blaring alarm went off. Peridot felt her stomach sink as the recorded "purge" message played on a billboard "Peridot what are we going to do?? We can't be out here!" Lapis whispered in a panic. Peridot tried to speak in a calm voice.
"The humans use this system, but Beach City is a small town. Nothing bad will happen here! Let's just keep walking..."

Lapis nodded and stayed close behind her. The alarm stopped and a several minutes passed. Peridot seemed to be right; perhaps nothing would happen.
Suddenly the green gem stopped walking and looked across the street. A car went by, on fire with someone screaming inside. The two gems stared as Onion soon walked by with a match in his hands. He looked at them slowly but didn't say anything.
"Shh, just run" Peridot whispered and they darted off to the next block.

The two ran and hid behind a building while both looking back to make sure Onion wasn't following them. Peridot breathed a sigh relief; but then screamed in terror as Lapis suddenly screamed.
Turning her head she saw Lapis being grabbed by a man wearing a white mask. Looking closer at the mask Peridot could see the phrase "I am God" written on it with black ink.
"Let her go! I mean it!" Peridot said chasing after the man as he dragged Lapis. The man stopped but continued to hold Lapis in a head lock.

He laughed and then put his fingers through Lapis' hair.
"Such a pretty pretty girl" he snickered "Too bad I can do whatever I want to her tonight" he whispered as tried to pull up Lapis' top.
"Fuck you!" Peridot screeched and tried to punch the man in the mask. The man backed away and Peridot started to activate a gun she had. 'Come on fucking work!' Peridot thought to herself.
"No, STOP STOP!" Lapis screamed as the masked man tried to reach up under her dress. He suddenly weakened his grip and Lapis was able escape. She tried running to Peridot only for her arm to be grabbed. Peridot was distracted by this and didn't activate her gun.
"Dottie!" Lapis screamed again as the masked man took out a gun of his own. It was too late however and Lapis watched as Peridot got shot right in her side. Peridot looked at her wound in shock.
"L-Lapis, I- LET HER GO-" She yelled out before being sucked into her gem to heal.

Lapis was traumatized. She knew Peridot would be ok, but seeing her get shot was too much for her.
"Haha, looks like you're all mine now" The man in the mask whispered.
"Please....don't" Lapis choked, some tears coming out of her eyes. She opened them in shock, as another gun shot was heard and the man fell to the floor. She looked up to see a teenager holding a gun. Lapis stood frozen in place. "I-I...you saved me?"

The pale teenager nooded. "Name's Sour Cream. I'm just trying to protect people tonight. You should...go home..." He mummered quietly and walked off.
"Th-Thank you..." Lapis said putting her arms across herself. She then picked up Peridot's gem and held it close. Looking down at the guy who had just been shot, she noticed he was still breathing.
With the ocean close by, she bubbled his head with water and watched as he drowned. She felt a weird sensation inside her. But he would have died anyways...

Lapis looked up at the city and heard some commotion. She was sick of being a victim. She smiled very lightly and walked towards downtown.

Maybe tonight she would release the beast too.
