"Don't let go. I'll take you out of here." She coldly stated. A disembodied voice rung through what was left of him while she still stood there unshaken and solid in this place full of liquified former beings:
"REMEMBER GIRL: ..." his spine would have been chilled solid by the sound of this voice if he still had one. "YOU CAN TAKE THIS ONE. BUT ONLY IF YOU DON'T LOOK BACK ON YOUR WAY OUT. AND IF YOU DON'T LET GO THAT IS."
"I know." She really is colder than hell itself. "Come." She pulled his arm. He wondered why she even bothered being here.
She came down and out of all the souls she knew exactly where to find him. Pulled him out of the liquified-ectoplasm-goo-soul- vortex swirling in Hades. Seeing her made him remember what he once was. Who he once was, shaping his unearthly remains into something resembling his former state. Resembling a human.
"You shouldn't have come. Why didn't Cerberus eat you intruder?" >Let go. Just leave me here. <
"You shouldn't be here. I came to fix that."
"How can you be sure you have the right one?"
"I am certain, that it's you who I wanted. I can still feel your heavy heart."
"I left my heart behind along with my body. What tells you I'm not just an arm you cling to? It's not even an arm. It's just the vague shape of it nothing attached." >Go ahead: turn around to make sure I'm lying. <
She didn't look back. She never was one to look back. That's why he thought she would easily move on, even without him. So why was he here, dragged out of Hel by her?
"Are you sure I'm the one you want? I could be a demon faking to be your precious person just so you bring me to an empty vessel to possess." He did a great job hissing in a demonic voice. He didn't even recognised himself.
Still unshaken she dragged him further. The way was long. Hades doesn't like his toys to be stolen. The souls were kept like a jar cramped with goldfish. Well not exactly a jar. A blender was a better description.
"I know what I'm doing." >Yeah. She always knew. < "You had no right to go like that."
"It was my life." He said like a stubborn child. If he could enrage her enough she would turn around to shout at him directly. Then he would be free to go back into the swirling unity of nothingness.
"You had no right to end it and you know that. Your soul is mine ever since you gave it to me that day." She was clearly enraged. Cold burning anger filled her voice but she still stared blankly ahead. He couldn't even take a glimpse of her face. Only the back of her head with her hair sizzled away by hellfire.
"You shouldn't have come. You shouldn't have gone through hell to take me back to where I never wanted to be." Honest pity filled his voice.
"Your soul is mine. And I'll take it with every bruise and crack it might have. It's the only thing I have. You are all I have. I thought you felt the same when you promised it to me. I was hoping mine would mean everything to you too."
"It is. I just didn't want to drag it down with me." He reached out to wrap his all around her back. The hand with the golden circlet around her finger kept holding onto his whist. Unmoved but still facing forward she stood still for a moment.
>Now she will turn around. And everything will be over. No chance to get back. No chance to ever see her again. No chance to hold her again...< Regret filled his core. She shook off his embrace through sheer will.
"That's why I'm here to drag you back up." He looked at her stunned. She didn't turn around. She didn't let go.
"I'M IMPRESSED FRAGILE LITTLE THING. BUT YOU THINK I'LL LET YOU OFF SO EASILY?"
Growling from the hellhounds heads filled the entire underworld echoing in his soul. "HIS SOUL IS MINE! YOU KNOW AS WELL AS I DO!"
"EVENTUALLY THEY ARE ALL MINE!" She didn't run. But she didn't let go either. Rumbling steps neared. The hellish creature just walked around them. Just now he noticed where they were. So close to the exit and still everything was futile. He felt her grip tightening.
The tree heads sniffed her, drooling. But they didn't attack her. They licked her face. They licked away her tears.
"FOOLISH, SOFT, LITTLE CERBERUS. LET THEM PASS FOR NOW. ALL OF THEM WILL BE MINE EVENTUALLY." She stroked the heads goodbye and softly thanked Hades while leaving the Underworlds gate still only facing ahead still her hand wrapped around his whist...
He woke up gasping for breath. He could still feel the cord around his throat but when touched his neck it wasn't there anymore. Alarm shrilled trough the sterile white room. A nurse entered the room checking all his vital functions asking dumb Questions.
"My wife! Where is she?" He kept asking but no one answered. Hours later they told him she fell into a comatose state almost right after he was brought into hospital. He asked them to see her. They did.
"We constantly monitored her brainwaves the entire time. She just seems to be sleeping but refuses to wake up. It's almost like she is only dreaming very vivid. We've never witnessed a case like that. She cried in her sleep a whole week. If she would have been awake we would've asked her to put out your life sustaining equipment since there was no sign you'd ever wake up again. It seems to be a miracle to talk to you now."
He only listened with one ear. He softly lifted her left hand and gently held it. The hand that wouldn't let go. The one with the slender gold ring around the fourth finger twin of his own. She smiled in her sleep and opened her eyes. Tears filled his eyes. "I'm yours. Now and forever." She kept smiling. "And I'm yours as I ever was."
