A/N: So this is the last chapter in the Unbound! However...there will be a sequel. Most likely it is going to be named Lost or Afterlife...anyway. The next will focus more on developing Brian and Zacky's relationship, and of course Scarlett. We will be seeing a lot of Jimmy, and the other guys!!

-          Brian’s POV –

That went badly.

I had carried Scarlett up to her room and put her on the bed. I’d locked the basement – properly this time – and berated myself. Stupid, stupid Brian. Zachary would be here soon and I had no idea what to tell him.

The truth was, I’d known what Jimmy was for a long time, but I hadn’t wanted to accept it. Jimmy was a vampire. Yeah. You heard me right. It turned out he was the one causing all the odd crimes he always seemed to show up at. He had killed people – plenty of them. But he’d also killed animals. Cows, horses, sheep…he’d been living off them for weeks when I found him. I’d had him locked up here for five months without any blood. The closest he’d had was raw steak.

No wonder he had attacked everyone.

No wonder he had a fondness for throats.

And what of Scarlett?

Well. Zachary was on his way, apparently. His little sister was breathing, but to all extents and purposes, she was comatose. Jimmy had taken a lot of blood, but she hadn’t died of it. In fact, Scarlett was far from dead.

The venom in Jimmy’s saliva was working its way around Scarlett’s bloodstream now, and you could see the physical changes taking place. Her skin, already pale, was growing into a shade of very light creamy white. Her eyes were closed now but I knew how they’d look when she opened them. They would be brighter, shinier, their green colour more prominent. They would at first be glazed over with bloodlust, but once she got blood, she’d be okay.

Once she got blood.

I sighed. When Scarlett woke up, I would kill her. I couldn’t let any more vampires kill people because of my selfishness and curiosity. After Scarlett I’d deal with Jimmy. Jimmy would be more of an obstacle, with his increased strength. But if Zacky didn’t accept what his sister was, he would stand in my way.

My train of thought was derailed as a tiny movement in my periphery caught my attention. Scarlett’s finger had twitched. The doorbell downstairs shrilled. Shit.

I locked the door very securely, then went downstairs to let Zacky in.

-          Scarlett’s POV –

It was honestly the weirdest thing ever.

I felt hungry and thirsty and the same time. Hungry for, like, a cheeseburger and thirsty for…I didn’t know what.

I opened my eyes and sat up. I remembered the previous events, how Jimmy had bitten me, how I’d passed out. How I had been so weak from lack of food and blood.

I didn’t feel weak now. I felt strong. I inhaled deeply through my nose, wincing.

Some smell assaulted my nostrils. It smelled so insanely delicious…God, I wanted it. I decided that the smell was vaguely familiar. It was Brian. He smelled…amazing. I could picture myself forcing him against the wall, holding him still and leaning into his neck and just sinking my teeth in and –

Whoa. What?

I shook my head and inhaled again. More smells flooded my nose. Another that felt tantalizingly delicious to me, almost better than Brian. And one more – one that felt different entirely. Familiar, natural, warm. That smell felt friendly, like something I could trust. I decided to drift towards the source of that smell.

There were murmured voices in the kitchen, but I paid them no heed as I followed my nose into the basement. The chain on the basement door was no problem – I ripped it out in no time. I flung the door open and stared at Jimmy.

He breathed in through his nose and looked at me with wide eyes.

I left the door open and approached him. I wasn’t afraid, not of Jimmy. “Jimmy?” I asked, “Can you smell it too?”

He nodded. “I have not smelled that before, not ever. I’m guessing…” he eyed me. “Yep. Definitely. You’re like me.”

I didn’t even have to ask. I knew, somehow, internally. I was a – a vampire. Jimmy was too. And the other two smells were causing the burning thirst in my throat.

“If I could get in here,” I said slowly, “How come you couldn’t get out?”

He inhaled deeply through his nose. “Before I attacked you…I hadn’t had blood in five months. You get a little weak.”

I nodded as a sound filled my ears. The sound of pacing. And then Brian’s voice – “Oh, god, no, not again–”

He and another familiar person stepped into the basement. Zacky, my big brother. I went on the hostile immediately, shifting back and preparing to spring. Jimmy flung out a hand a murmured, “Easy, Scarly. Easy.”

“But,” I whined, “The smell…it hurts…”

“I know,” Jimmy said sympathetically, “And we’ll get you blood soon. It just…can’t be now.”

I nodded, the smells of Zacky and Brian searing my throat.

“This is what you meant?” Zacky directed this to Brian. “This is what you mean to tell me? That my little sister and my best friend – my fucking DEAD best friend – are, like, undead vampires?”

“Not undead,” Jimmy said quickly, “We’ll grow and die just like you.”

“Jimmy!” Zacky exclaimed, running towards him as if he had only just realized he was there. “Jimmy, you’re alive!”

“Not good, Baker,” Brian muttered between his teeth.

Jimmy didn’t straighten up and offer Zacky a hug, like he would once have done. He warned him off. Zacky backed up.

“Let them go hunting first,” Brian told him, “Then maybe we can reason.”

Zacky nodded unsurely. “Okay.”

Jimmy put his hand out as if to take mine. “Scarlett, are you ready?”
