Riley Matthews furiously ran her fingers through her curly hair. She sat down on her bed and started staring off into the distance. Her parents fighting could be heard from the upstairs apartment. Cory and Topanga, the number one power couple, were indeed fighting with each other. This was the fourth time this week.
Riley's younger brother, Auggie, came slowly walking into Riley's room with a very quiet knock. Dressed in his pajamas and his stuffed Mr. Googly animal, he ran over to Riley. She opened her arms wide and they took a long embrace. He then looked up at her with tears in his eyes.
"Riley," he whined, "when will mommy and daddy stop fighting?"
Riley out her head in his head and started squeezing him tight.
"It's gonna be okay."

Riley woke up and sat up in her bed with a gasp. She had a very bad nightmare last night. She then, after recalling the dream, reached for her phone.
"6:04 am.." She muttered. Riley got up and put her school clothes on. She left her room and went into the kitchen.
Riley saw her mother, Topanga, dressed in her clothes from yesterday and her hair messed up from sleeping. She was pouring milk and cereal for her fourteen year old and her six year old. She turned and Riley could see her mascara stains from, what she assumed, were tears.
"Good morning, mother." Riley started walking towards the table in their kitchen. "I was going to head off to school with Maya a little early today-"
Before Riley could finish her sentence, her mother pointed to the chair and said "sit. eat."
Riley was very confused but followed her mothers orders. She ate her cereal then went to brush her teeth. Before she left she gave her mother a hug and told her she loved her.

"They were fighting again last night, Maya..." Riley told her blonde best friend, Maya Hart everything that had been going on with her parents. Maya understood what it was like when your parents fight, being from a broken home.
The girls stepped onto the subway to make their way to school. Riley tried to be happy this morning by wearing happy colors such as pink and yellow, but she couldn't be happy. She had too much on her mind.
"Before my parents divorced," she started, "they fought a lot. They even slept in different rooms for the most part."
Disappointment was shown on Riley's face, remembering that she had seen a pillow and some blankets on the couch this morning. Did they sleep in separate rooms? Were they getting a divorce? She wasn't sure.
"Riles, I wouldn't worry about it. Your parents are Cory and Topanga! Corpanga! They're every-"
"Did you just say Corpanga?" Riley giggled at the name. "Is that their ship name? I love it."
"Yeah, you like it? Hahaha." Maya laughed and continued, "but, just remember, Shawn wanted to be like your mom and dad at one point. He still wants their relationship. Have faith."
Riley and Maya walked off the subway onto the sidewalk that lead to the front of their school. The entered school and met up with Farkle.
"Ladies! How are you guys doing this morning."
The three best friends met up and walked to class.
~~~~~~~~~~
During class, Riley couldn't stop thinking about her parents fight. Hearing the swears, the crying, the yelling, from both of them kept running through her brain while she was trying to listen to her fathers lesson. Her mind was racing, she started breathing heavy, short breaths. She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to her left and saw Maya, who looked at her worriedly.
The bell rang, signifying the end of the day. Riley raced to her locker and grabbed her books and her jacket; and met up with Maya.
They proceeded to walk to the subway when Maya noticed Riley's hands wouldn't stop shaking. She took her hands and held them and muttered "...what is wrong with her..!"
~~~~~~~~~~
Riley got into her apartment and threw her backpack on the couch. She was recalling the words that Maya said to her, "it's going to be okay."
"Yeah, as if.." Riley said out loud, responding to Maya's comment to no one.
She took her jacket, took out some warm boots, gloves, a scarf, and grabbed her phone. Leaving her room, she saw her mom was laying on the couch with her arm as her pillow and was fast asleep. Riley took the blanket on the back of the couch and covered her mother, then proceeded to kiss the top of her head.
Riley went into her parents room to see if her dad was in there. When she saw him, he was laying down on his bed, just staring at the wall.
"Um, daddy?" She started,"I'm going to Maya's, I'll be back later. Eat dinner without me."
He muttered a reply, which sounded like an "okay."
And she was off. Riley lied when she said she was going to Maya's, she was just going to wander the streets of New York, just to sort her mind. She walked around aimlessly for hours, having little success about her feelings and thoughts.
On the way back to her apartment, she bumped into her other best friend. Lucas Friar. They greeted each other with their awkward "hi's" and "hey's". They walked around town for another 15 minutes, just talking about school and their favorite classes. They walked to Riley's apartment, where they waved goodbye to each other.
She went up the back way to her bay window, where she always climbed in. The time was 9:07pm. The moon was high in the sky, the Stars were shining brightly. She was thinking about her parents.
"How can I make them better? Maybe if I knew how they acted when they were little I could figure out how to fix them..." She whispered to herself.
Looking up in the sky, she saw a shooting star. Being the young, gullible, innocent Riley she is, she wished upon it.
"I wish I could see them as children."
She closed her eyes.
And the opened them.
"Where... Am I?"
