Andromeda's POV
"GET OUT OF MY HOUSE YOU FILTHY BLOOD TRAITOR!!" My mother screamed, reaching for her wand as I cowered in shock. She wasn't suppose to find out, not like this. Not with these ideas in her head that would make her turn against me. I turned my head to Bella, who simply shook her head and glared at me before leaving. My mother gripped my arm tightly and proceeded to pull me up the stairs. I stumbled until she used all her strength to toss me on my bed. She pulled out a suitcase from my closet and threw it at me, barely missing my face.
"You have 10 minutes to collect your things. After that, you must leave. I never want to see your face again. You're a disgrace." She spat. She left the room without another word. I gasped for breath as I began to sob. I fell to the floor and cried. Ted doesn't want me, he thinks I don't love him. My mother doesn't want me, she thinks I betrayed her by falling in love. Bella knew, she knew, and was a good enough sister to not tell but now that our mother knows it's like she doesn't even care about me anymore. Cissy isn't even here, nor is my father, though he'd probably be much worse than either Mother or Bella.
"Oh pull yourself together, Andromeda. Don't act as though you didn't know this would happen. You chose this, at least own up to that. You are no martyr." Bella growled from the doorway. I looked up at her with despair.
"Bella-" I pleaded.
"Only my sisters call me Bella. You are no sister of mine."
"Please. I have nowhere to go. Ted doesn't want me anymore. I just need somewhere to go. I'm your little sister, Andy. Nothing has changed-"
"Everything has changed. You used to be one of us, you used to avoid Mudbloods like the plague and talk about joining up with the Dark Lord. What happened to that Andromeda?"
"Bella, I was naive back then, but now I know what I want. I fell in love-"
"And at what cost? Our parents gave you everything and more, the Dark Lord is going to give us the ultimate gift after he takes control of the Wizarding World. We were all going to be his most loyal and rewarded followers. Are you saying you choose that Mudblood over all of that?"
"Wouldn't you? If Rodolphus had been a Muggleborn, wouldn't you still want to be with him?"
"Of course not. I wouldn't even know who he was. Unlike you, I don't socialize with people who are below me."
"Don't you love Rodolphus?"
"I love the Dark Lord. Pack your bags." Bella left and I slowly rose to my feet. I silently packed my suitcase and walked down the stairs. Only Bella stood there.
"Where's Mother?" I asked.
"She's calling my Aunt Walburga to let her know that we're going over to her house to blast you off the family tree." Bella replied, a smirk on her face.
"Doesn't she care that I'm leaving?"
"Why would she? You're not her daughter, you're a blood traitor who doesn't deserve the name Black. In fact, give me one good reason why I shouldn't hex you for trespassing. It's been more than 10 minutes." She began to study her wand, twiddling it between her fingers.
"I'm your sister, you love me and I love you. I am still the same person I was yesterday and last week and last year. Can't you see that? There is more to life than the Dark Lord." Bella looked up at me with fiery eyes and a smile so terrifying it made her look insane. She walked up to me and bent over so we were the same height. Her nose basically touched my own as she placed the tip of her wand on my cheek.
"I think it would be best if you left." Her eyes were trained on mine as she let out a sinister cackle. I felt tears begin to fall as Bella used her wand to cut a gash on my cheek. I ran away from her and my mother and my home and kept running until my legs gave out. I finally decided I had to try Ted at least once, so I Disapparated.
Narcissa's POV
Saturday morning, Quidditch match that puts Hufflepuff against Ravenclaw. Ian decided we are going for Ravenclaw. We have some friends there, unlike with the Hufflepuffs whom we can never agree with on anything. Talitha woke me up so we could grab breakfast before the match.
"Come on, Cissy. We don't have all day." Talitha whined.
"Only my family calls me Cissy. You call me Narcissa." I said as I slowly removed myself from my bed.
"Why are you so against nicknames?"
"Nicknames are improper. If my mother wanted people to call me Cissy, she would have named me that in the first place. Bella, Reg, and Andy are exceptions, we're family."
"Whatever Narcissa, just hurry up okay?" I took a shower and got dressed in black pants, a grey sweater, and a black cloak. I brushed out my hair and calmly walked up the stairs and into the common room where Lucius, Severus, Alecto, Emma, and Ian were waiting.
"Good morning, Narcissa." Lucius greeted as the 6 of us began the walk to the Great Hall. Once we sat down, the owls flew in and one landed in front of me. The envelope had my named scrawled on it in Bella's slanted handwriting. I fed the owl and opened it.
Dear Cissy,
Mother and Andromeda had a big fight today. Mother found out about Andromeda and the Mudblood. I though you said she heeded our warning and ended it? No matter, Andromeda was given an ultimatum and she chose the Mudblood. Mother and I are about to head over to Aunt Walburga's to blast her off the Black Family Tree. We kicked her out an hour ago and I sent some letters out to the others to warn them to not let her in, even though she is begging and alone. Her precious Mudblood doesn't even want her anymore, she tried to reason with me. She wanted me to let her live with me and Rodolphus until she could persuade the Mudblood to take her back. How tragic. I said no, of course. I don't know where she is now, and I don't care. She is no longer our sister.
Your Only Sister,
Bella
My breath hitched as I put the letter down. I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to see Reg with a similar letter in his hand.
"My mother wrote to me. I'm sorry, Cissy." He stated. I swallowed and blinked away tears.
"Thank you, Reg." I replied and flashed him a small smile. I turned back to my empty plate as he walked back to his seat. As I piled food onto my plate, my eyes wandered over to the Gryffindor table where my cousin, no doubt, would be reading a letter with the same information enclosed as mine and Reg's. It took forever, but I spotted the red head he hangs out with and there he was, a few seats down. He was sitting in the middle of the Potter boy and the werewolf, with the blonde reading his letter over his shoulder. I watched Potter smile sympathetically at Sirius and McKinnon squeeze his shoulder as Sirius found me staring at him. He quickly looked away and I turned my attention back to my own table. Emma nudged me from beside me.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Eat, we're gonna leave soon." She said. I ate my eggs and slowly followed the others out. I found Sirius close to me in the crowd and told Alecto I would be right back. I walked over to him and was met with Potter and McKinnon again.
"I need to talk to you." I stated.
"About what?" Potter asked.
"Is your last name Black? No? Then it's none of your business."
"Cousin, be quiet. I'll see you guys down at the pitch." Sirius said and let his friends leave before he turned to face me.
"This is concerning Andy, I assume." He said.
"Of course it is, why else would I talk to you?" I spat.
"Same Narcissa. I thought you'd at least be a little upset that your sister just got disowned, but no." I glared at him.
"Shut it. Of course I'm upset. Andromeda was my sister."
"Was?"
"When my mother disowned her, so did Bella and so did I."
"You see, coz, this is where you and I differ. I would never do that to Regulus just because Mother and Bella dearest said so."
"Well some of us care about this family. You only care about your precious blood traitor and Mudblood friends."
"Why do you even want to talk to me, Narcissa?" I froze, not sure what to say.
"I-I guess I wanted someone who would care. You cared about Andromeda just as much as I did. I thought you would get it." Sirius rolled his eyes and shook his head in exasperation.
"Narcissa, how could I get this? I still call Andy family. She is still my cousin. I still care."
"Why can't you be more like your brother?"
"I wish I could say it was good talking to you, Narcissa, but it wasn't. Goodbye." Sirius walked away and left me standing in the Great Hall, alone. I took a deep breath and clenched my hands together. I felt a single tear run down my cheek.
"I guess only two people can call me Cissy now." I mumbled and sniffled as I straightened up and walked to the Quidditch Pitch.
Sirius's POV
I wish I could say that I feel bad for Narcissa, but I don't. I don't pity her or wish there was something I could do. She's not the cousin who is possibly homeless right now. Even if she was, I don't think I would care. Andy was always a little iffy about the Black ways, as was I. She just wasn't as openly rebellious as I was. We hang out a lot, at family gatherings. I suppose Aunt Druella thinks I poisoned her with my Gryffindor ways, it sounds about right. The Quidditch game was lost on me, I wasn't paying attention. I debated writing to Andy, but I don't know where she is and it's very hard for owls to find moving targets. What would I even say? I support your decision? I'm proud to call you my cousin? Hope you aren't alone in a ditch somewhere? I decided to just wait for her to write. I have other things to deal with anyway. Namely, Marlene McKinnon. She's getting more aggravated as the days go by and I do absolutely nothing, but what am I suppose to do? I've never had feelings for a girl before, I don't know how to plan a date that will impress McKinnon. Prongs has been bothering me about it, but I think I lost him in the crowd. I'm currently laying down on my bed, staring at the ceiling.
"Padfoot!!" Moony called. I groaned and sat up to see him, Prongs, Wormtail, and Frank standing there.
"Yes?" I asked.
"This is an intervention." Prongs stated.
"About what?"
"You and Marlene." Wormtail said.
"Look, I'll ask her out eventually, okay? Just let me figure out how."
"You've never had an issue before." Moony said.
"Yeah, but McKinnon is different. I don't know how to ask out girls I actually fancy."
"The best part of fancying a girl you're already friends with is the fact that you know them already. You know their likes and their dislikes and it's a lot easier to ask them out when you know they'll most likely not say no, trust me." Frank explained.
"Yeah, but the difference between me and McKinnon and you and Alice is that you guys were both so oblivious for so long that you were already practically dating by the time you asked her out."
"You don't have all day, Pads." Prongs blurted out.
"Why not?" Moony glared at the other three who fell silent.
"Why the hell not?" I pressed. Wormy finally broke.
"Because Gideon Prewett is planning on asking her out again after dinner." Wormy finally spilled. I raised an eyebrow at the four of them.
"Who told you that?"
"Moony said that Mary told him that Em told her that Hestia said she overheard Tessa Williamson, a 7th year Ravenclaw, talking to Kacey Mulvoy, a 7th Year Gryffindor, about Gideon saying he wishes he and Marlene never broke up and that he wants to try to win her back." Prongs explained.
"English please?"
"What he's saying is that if you don't hurry your arse up, you're gonna lose her." Vance stated as she sauntered through the door, dragging Mary behind her.
"Were you eavesdropping?" Moony asked.
"Is that really the point, Remus?"
"I guess not."
"Focus. Vance, what makes you think she'd even say yes to Gideon? She doesn't like him that way." I said.
"They dated over the summer and broke up for no real reason, which means Marlene probably still has some feelings towards Gideon. To us girls, Gideon Prewett is the ultimate boyfriend, no girl in her right mind would say no to him." Vance said.
"No girl says no to me either."
"No whore says no to you, there's a difference. Gideon is the Golden Boy, the Boy Next Door, the one you bring home to meet your parents. You, on the other hand, are the one girls meet up with in broom closets, the one that causes them to have a teenage rebellion against their parents because they think they can change you, only to find out they can't. Marlene would be crazy to choose you over Gideon Prewett."
"So I blew it? Is that what you're saying?"
"No, you haven't blown it, Sirius. You just have to get there first." Mary said.
"So she'll only say yes to me on a technicality. That's just bloody brilliant."
"Sirius, you're taking this the wrong way. I'm saying that Marlene won't say no to Gideon if he asks first, but if she already said yes to you then she will say no."
"You lost me."
"Look, I love Marlene, but she can be one of the most petty people in the world. She would say yes to Gideon so you would be jealous."
"Mary, you're a good girl. What makes you think she'd want me over the, apparently, god that is Gideon Prewett?"
"Because if she wanted Gideon she would have told him to chase after her. She told you though, and let's face it, you two are practically the same person anyway. You two make a much better fit." I sat there, stunned and not sure what to do.
"Sirius, she's in the common room." Frank stated.
"Okay." I said, still not moving a muscle.
"Today, Pads, today." Prongs exclaimed.
"Oh, right!!" I jumped up and rushed down the stairs. As I entered the common room, I quickly made sure my hair looked good and took a deep breath. It's just McKinnon, nothing to be afraid of. Just use your normal Sirius Black techniques and you'll be fine. I found McKinnon playing Wizard Chess with Evans and walked over to them.
"McKinnon." I said. She looked up and raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, Black?" She asked.
"The next Hogsmeade trip is coming up, would you like to go with me?" She cocked her head.
"Depends, is this a date or is this just like any other thing you do for a girl you want to shag?"
"It's a date, McKinnon." She smirked in response and waggled her eyebrows.
"Good, yeah, I'll go with you."
"Good." I turned on my heel and walked up the stairs to the dorm, Prongs and Moony waiting outside the door.
"You're blushing." Prongs exclaimed.
"Am not." I replied, my cheeks warming more than they already were.
"Are too." Moony teased as he clapped me on the back.
Marlene's POV
The moment Black left the room, I was ambushed. Em and Mary rushed over to me from where they were watching from the corner and Alice appeared out of absolutely nowhere with a grin on her face.
"Marls!! This is so great!! We can double date now!! Scratch that, we can TRIPLE date!!" Alice exclaimed.
"You seem more excited about this than me." I stated.
"Why aren't you more excited? This is what you wanted, right?" Mary asked.
"Yes, I just know how to play it cool. It's just a date with Black, no big deal."
"You wanted this? How come you didn't tell me?" Lily asked.
"To be fair, she didn't tell anyone, not really. We just figured it out for ourselves." Em mentioned.
"Yeah, plus Lil, every time someone brought it up you were always so adamant about me having better taste than a manwhore like Black and it kinda made me not want to tell you." I said.
"Well why didn't one of you three tell me to shut up?" Lily asked, chuckling.
"Sorry, we weren't sure how you would react." Alice said.
"If he, somehow, makes Marlene happy, then I trust her judgement. I still don't trust him, but that's not really the point, now is it?" I let myself grin as my friends excitedly discussed the new gossip. I looked around the common room, the chess game forgotten, and noticed the boys entering the common room and coming our way.
"The guys are coming, I'd appreciate it if you didn't inflate Black's ego even more by having a panic attack, thanks." I remarked and the four girls changed the topic to their plans for break. The boys sat down on the couch in front of the fire, adjacent to us, and Black winked at me when he caught me staring. I rolled my eyes and went back to my chess game, where Lily beat me (of course).
Lily's POV
We're switching in seats in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Professor Houlihan decided to ask the Slytherins where they wanted to sit and who they wanted to sit with. Great.
"Mr. Malfoy, you get first pick." Professor Houlihan announced.
"Narcissa Black." Malfoy replied and the two sat down.
"Of course, betrothed, right? Mr. Avery, I assume you want to sit with Miss Vanity?"
"Yes, sir." Avery replied.
"Okay, Mr. Mulciber, you choose." I felt Marlene tense beside me.
"Please no. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no. No." Marlene whispered. Mulciber better not say-
"McKinnon." Mulciber said gruffly. Marlene went to take her seat beside Mulciber, leaving me next to Black. I could hear him growling.
"Really? If you say so. Mr. Wilkes?" Professor Houlihan commented.
"Charging Mulciber isn't going to do anything but get you into trouble, Black. Don't be stupid." I whispered.
"Florence Schneider." Wilkes said.
"I hate that guy." Black whispered.
"Miss Serpentis?" Houlihan asked.
"Talitha Denkers." Serpentis said.
"Me too." I whispered.
"Mr. Snape?" Houlihan asked.
"Lily Evans." Severus answered the moment Houlihan finished asking. I walked over to my seat beside Severus and sat down.
"Pettigrew."
"Remus Lupin." Peter squeaked. When Peter gets nervous, he tends to sound like a mouse.
"Longbottom."
"Alice MacDougal." Frank said.
"Potter."
"Sirius Black." Potter said, leaving Em and Mary to sit together.
"Hey Lily, aren't you glad we're sitting together?" Severus asked.
"Why would she be glad to sit next to you, Snivellus? Loser." Black commented as he passed.
"Oh shut it, Black. Let's remember who just asked out whose best friend. I have leverage now." I remarked.
"Whatever Evans."
"I'll get him in so much trouble some day, I promise. Even if it takes 20 years." Severus stated.
"That's not true, Sev. You won't still be hung up on your Hogwarts bully in 20 years, you'll be married with kids to spoil. Black, on the other hand, who knows where he'll be." I said. That seemed to lift Severus's spirits.
