ANNABETH'S POV
The wedding went by in a blur. Annabeth couldn't remember the details of it. All the time she just felt like she was floating on the air like a balloon. Her mind kept wandering in the thought that she and Percy were married. It was a huge step in their relationships. And it meant a huge possibility of their future.
The heat from Percy's hand was warming hers. She craned her neck to see his face. She wondered what he was thinking now.He was staring at a pile of pizza and some of them were blue. Well, he was probably just thinking of food.He felt her gaze and tore his stare from the tempting pizza. "What?",he raised his eyebrows. "Nothing.", she looked away. "Ahh I know, you want pizza, don't you? ", he snapped his finger and said delightedly. She rolled her eyes, " Yes,you know me very well,Seaweed Brain." " Wait a sec." ,he darted to the pizza.
She shook her head but chuckled at the same time. Suddenly,on the floor,a shadow loomed over her shadow. That shadow was much more solid and darker than hers. Fear filled her that every hair on her skin rose. Hades. She turned around to face to the Lord of Death. The unwelcoming brother of the Big Three was wearing a suit. Yes,I said, a suit. And no houling unfortunate spirt was sewed in it. And he was wearing his helmet. Who else would go to a wedding and think : hey it's cool to wear a helmet that can scare everyone to death! "Congratulations. Annabeth Chase.", Hades spoke. His voice was creeping her out. She wished Percy was here. That idiot left her for pizza. "Thank you.", she said politely, staring her shoes. "Are you thanking your high heels or thanking me?", he said slowly, seemingly thinking of this question. She looked up and suppressed her uprising anger. Who else would go to a wedding and mess with the host? She looked up and stared straight into his eyes. There were no eyeballs in them. Just two big holes. Like... two big holes that consumed everything they 'saw'. She shivered at the thought. "You for sure,my Lord.", she forced a smile and emphasised the words, my Lord. Hades nodded and scratched his beard. "I remember in your vow, you said something like death is just little challenge for you two, didn't you,my fellow godling?", he said, raising an eyebrow. (If you didn't have eyes, would 'eyebrows' still be called 'eyebrows'? Or just simply 'brows'? This thought floated in her mind. She shook her head because this thought was so Percy-ishly stupid.) He was challenging her she could tell. "Yes we did.", she replied while observing his expression carefully. Talking about death with a god that controlled death didn't sound like a good idea. So she steered the direction this conversation was leading. "So," "Well," they spoke at the same time. Annabeth paused. "Good luck.", he said, his 'brows' furrowing then left. Her gaze followed his back into the crowd then he completely vanished. Her mind couldn't function properly. She could swear on her life that the look Hades gave her when he wished her luck was concern. The Lord of Death wished her luck with what? With death? He just mentioned their vow that was against death then the next second he was saying good luck to her. Did he mean...did he mean...
Someone tapped her shoulder and it literally made her jump. She turned around and elbowed the attacker. "Ouch!", Percy groaned and hugged his stomach. The realisation of who she just hit pulled her out from her thought. "Oh my gods, sorry, Percy, I didn't know it was you. I'm sorry.", she stammered frantically. "It's okay.", he slowly squeezed the words out, apparently still in pain. His hand was still holding a plate of food. Pizza, enchiladas, and her favourite food,Camp Half Blood styled roasted beef. The food made her mouth watered and tempoarily forgot her conversations with Hades. "Here you go.", Percy smirked, handing her the full plate of food.
The party ended with the cheer of crowd sending them off to their honeymoon. They were heading to Greece and Italy as Annabeth wanted to admire the architectures in it so bad. The last time they were there, they were either fighting monsters or breathing sulphuric air in Tartarus. Their luggages were packed before the wedding. Annabeth was so excited about this trip before. But now, after the conversations with Hades, she was worried and terrified. When they were in a cab heading to the airport, Annabeth stared at the evening Manhattan absentmindedly while trying to figure out what did Hades mean. Percy was asleep next to her, leaning against the window on the other side. Even death, can't rip us apart, because my heart is stuck with yours.Death is just a little challenge. The vow kept replying in her head, especially these two sentences. She scooted to Percy and examined his face. He looked carefree and innocent when sleeping. She touched his eyelids softly and traced down his jawline finally ended up on his lips. She glanced at the driver, who was driving with all his focus on the road. She turned back to Percy and leaned in to kiss him on the lips. His lips tasted salty and soft, like ever. She could hold this gesture forever if she wouldn't get tired. "Kids, don't make out in my car. Seeing you two get naked do no good for my old damned eyes.", the driver turned to face them with a smirk on his face. Annabeth tore herself from Percy and smiled embrassingly.
"What.", Percy woke up and rubbed his sleepy eyes. She blushed and prayed to the gods of Olympus that he didn't know what she just did. The driver smiled like he and she shared a little secret. But it gave no time for Annabeth to roll her eyes at him. Because,a car was rushing to them and it wasn't likely to slow down.
For a second, her vision was overwhelmed in blinding white. The headlight of the oncoming car. Then her body was thrown backwards and suddenly every body part was screaming in pain. But the good thing was her vision returned. She could see everything that was going on in the cab. That was one of the perks of being a demigod. She could see the front of the other car crashed into hers. The glass shattered and scattered all over the car. She could see the headlight hit the driver in the head and she could tell he died instantly. There was no blood. She could see the seat in front of her bent backwards to her direction and pushed against her chest. She couldn't breathe. She could see Percy was thrown backwards and hit his head. Then he was trying to open the door. She couldn't breathe. The giant seat on her chest was squeezing her against the back of her seat and she couldn't push it away. She couldn't breathe. Death is just a little challenge. "Percy... help me.", she squeezed the words out, praying that he could hear her. He turned away from the door instantly. His eyes were furious and frantic then changed to fearful and guilty. "Oh my,Annabeth.", he cursed in Greek and tears were rushing out from his seagreen eyes. He pushed the seat back to the place it belonged. Fear of losing someone could grant you an unimaginable strength. But then he covered his mouth in shock and searched in his backpack furiously. The weight on her chest had already been gone but she still couldn't breathe. She struggled to sit up straight but her heart, lungs, stomach, basically everything hurt. She looked down her chest and the thing she saw nearly put her into unconsicous. Her shirt was soaked with blood because right in the middle of her body, was a sharp edged glass with the size of a hand. She couldn't breathe. She was losing her sight. Her mind was messed up. The memory with Percy was flooding her. She remembered when they first met, it was in the infirmary and Percy was drooling. She remembered when they needed to part on Mount St.Helens, the look on his face was grim and brave, she was so scared that she wouldn't be able to see that face again. She remembered when he was gone missing, how scared and frenetic she was. She remembered when they were at the cavern in Rome, she was pulled to the chasm. She thought she was falling alone. She thought she wouldn't see him again. She was so scared.
She was so scared. That she would die alone. That she would never see him again. That she would be forever apart from him.
She was so scared.
Percy was trying to force her to swallow a piece of ambrosia. But it pained her very much. She knew it. She knew that after all these things, eventually, no matter how scared was she, fate wouldn't listen to her. She had used up her luck to have him. And being with him for so long had been pushing her luck. She knew it.
"Percy...", she forced a faint smile. " Even death, can't rip us apart, because my heart is stuck with yours.Death is just a little challenge." When she was saying the words, somehow she knew they were true. Somehow. She smiled,"I love you, forever and ever and ever."
The last thing she felt was the salty tasted lips on hers.
