I've been sat with Derek in the hospital for two hours now. When the doors swing open, Lucy walks in. Derek feels my body tense up.
"Oh my God, Stiles!" She greets me.
"Hey, Lucy..." I say.
"Is this your boyfriend?!" She squeals, pointing at Derek.
"No, Lucy." I say back, my voice patient.
The nurses leads her away to the other end of the room.
"Who's that?" Asks Derek.
"Lucy. I met her here about two months ago. She's got a brain tumour- she doesn't really have a filter when she talks." I tell him, and he nods sadly.
"I had a friend with a brain tumour when I was in high school." He says, looking distant.
"Oh yeah?" I ask.
"Yeah, eventually, it took over her whole personality- we lost her when she was seventeen. She was one of my best friends." He says, shuddering at the memory.
"What was she like?" I ask.
"Before the cancer? She- she was incredible; she was unique and weird and funny but the kindest person you'd ever meet. Until the tumour took it all away." He tells me. "But the worst part, was that I didn't get to say goodbye." He says, his eyes watering.
"I'm sorry." I whisper, and lean on his shoulder.
"This is why I spend so much time with you. Just incase..." I wince at the thought of death. "I wanna be with you until-"
"The end." I say, looking up at him. He has to nod rather than talk back because he's trying not to cry, so he bites his lip.
I consider this for a moment. Death.
"I think I'm gonna make a list." I say, looking at Derek.
He looks back at me inquisitively.
"Oh yeah?" He says, the corners of his mouth slightly upturned.
"Yeah. You know, things I wanna do before I die. Just in case." I say.
"You mean a bucket list?" He asks.
"Exactly." I say back.
"I'll help you then, and I promise we will complete every single thing on that list, no matter how crazy or stupid." He chuckles. I smile back.

I look in the mirror when I get home. My hair is beginning to grow back- although only barely, there's just a sort of soft fuzzy feeling on my head.
"You okay?" Derek asks, opening my bedroom door and walking in.
"Yeah, surprisingly. I am." I say, smiling at him.
"You should still get some rest." He says, guiding my fragile body to my bed. He picks up the covers and waits for me to slowly climb in. When I do, he tucks me in and piles another blanket on top.
"You had a big dosage today." He says, sitting next to my reclined body, stroking my forehead.
