“Wake up Sophie!” I heard a bunch of girls screaming excitingly. I groaned and rubbed my eyes with my hands. They suddenly opened up the curtains and the bright sunlight shone through the window. I groaned even louder.
“What time is it?” I asked groggily still half asleep. “And what are you guys doing in my room? Am I getting punk’d? Where’s Ashton?”
I heard there laughter all over the room. “Of course not silly! Today’s your seventeenth birthday! Ashton Kutcher isn’t here to sweep you off your feet. You might meet your mate today!” I heard someone, probably Lorraine, scream. That woke me up. I opened my eyes and sat up straight. I felt dizzy for a moment and then my vision got clearer. All the girls were surrounding my bed. Today’s the day, probably the most life changing day of my life.
“Oh my god! Today is my birthday!” I said excitedly. I really couldn’t wait for the party tonight. Everyone would be there and I would finally feel like I belong with a group of people. Hopefully I would be meeting my mate tonight. I tried to imagine what he would look like. Would he have blonde, black, or brunette hair? How old is he? What’s his personality like. Before I could think more in deaf, Karina pulled me to my feet.
“Snap out your lala land Sophie! Today’s your day so go take a shower then we’ll help you get ready. Party starts at 5!” said Karina as she pushed me into the bathroom.
I made to clean myself extra well. Who knows if I’m going to meet my mate tonight? I shaved, shampooed twice, and used my lovely strawberry conditioner and body wash and I was good to go. I looked in the mirror and wrapped a towel around my body. My face looked like it was glowing and my smile seemed wider than usual.
I grabbed one of those ultra fluffy white robes and put it on. I came out of the bathroom looking refreshed to find all of the girls plugging in hair dryers, straightners, and curling irons as well as getting out their make-up boxes.
“Sit over here birthday and let us do your hair and make-up. You’re going to look even more beautiful than you already do tonight!” Rebecca said with delight. Someone turned the radio up as Rebecca loosely curled my hair.
Since my hair was so thick, it took about 2 ½ hours to curl my hair. By the time my hair was finished it was already 2:30 pm. 2 ½ more hours ‘til the party, I thought anxiously. Karina did my make-up very subtly in case I was to meet my mate tonight. No need for panda eyes when we were doing the deed. At around 4 when most of the girls were finished and started to get dressed, I heard a knock at the door.
Katie went and opened it and saw that it was my mom and she was carrying a dress with her covered with a bag. I got up and hugged my mother.
“You look so gorgeous darling, absolutely breathtaking,” she whispered into my ear. I noticed that a few stray tears leaked from her eyes.
“Oh mom,” I said brushing off the tears.
“Oh don’t worry about me. It’s just not every day you see your daughter becoming an adult. Anyways back to happier business. I have your dress for you. I found it about five years ago when we were still living at New York at the time and I knew I had to get it for you. It will look absolutely stunning on you, I just know it!” She said happily.
I opened the bad to find an amazing dress. It was red and figure hugging, but not ridiculously tight. It was made of silk with a sweetheart neckline, a few rhinestones, and little bit above the knee. I saw a pair of platform leather black shoes next to me and knew this would be great.
“It’s beautiful Mom, thank you,” I told her as I hugged her. She told me to go get dressed and I did. After she zippered me up and I put on my shoes, I looked into the full length mirror. The girl looking back at me doesn’t even look like me. It looked like someone replaced me with a supermodel, an angel. I looked wonderful.
I thanked all of the girls for their work and for helping me get ready for the party. I took one last look at myself and smiled. Today was my day, god please help me.
I looked at the time and noticed that it was already five. I could hear the people downstairs and the music being played. Everyone seemed like they were having a great time already. Rebecca mentioned that if I found my mate, I would not be required to go to school for the next month since I would have to adjust to having a mate and the first shift.
I suddenly had butterflies in my stomach. I hope my mate will be as amazing as everyone said he will be. It’s weird not even knowing his name. Nature works in mysterious ways.
Most of the girls have already gone downstairs to the party. The only ones left in my room were Rebecca, Katie, Karina, Lorraine, me, and my mom.
“Time to go Soph,” Mom said to me softly. I nodded and smiled at her. Lorraine led us out and I could now hear the people laughing and eating. We started to walk down the stairs and it became silent. Alpha Latro’s voice then boomed throughout the great ballroom.
“We are here to welcome the McDaniel’s back into our pack as once before. We are also here to celebrate the seventeenth birthday of Ms. Sophie McDaniel. Happy Birthday Sophie and best wishes on finding your mate! Cheers!” Everyone raised their glass and cheered with him. The music started playing again and I walked around the room with Rebecca, Karina, and Lorraine.
As I passed everyone wished me the best of luck and Happy Birthday. I blushed and thanked all of them for their well wishes and hoped that they would enjoy the party.
We all started dancing and then Rebecca went and danced with Caleb after a while. Everyone looked like they were having the time of their lives and I couldn’t be happier. Everyone looked healthy, happy, and we had a great pack to celebrate.
All there is missing is my mate and I know that one day I will meet him. Time is all that it will take.
After dancing for a bit, we decided to get something to eat. I got some spaghetti and a salad that was to die for. I needed to ask for this recipe later.
My mood went down a bit after a while. I didn’t feel that “first sight” with any of the guys. I felt no pull or anything that would bound me to anyone forever. As I scanned through the crowd, I still felt like the same ole me. After finishing our meals, Mom got the cake out and it was huge. Five people had to carry it to the table, but hey, there were about three hundred people here celebrating. Lots of cake was needed.
“Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Sophie, Happy Birthday to you!” The crowd screamed at me. I laughed and blew out the seventeen candles. The lights went on and I looked up.
All of the sudden my whole world stopped. I could barely breathe and I could tell everyone else froze as well.
I saw him. He had blonde hair and a body to die for. I’m thinking he was about 6’3 with the most gorgeous face I had ever seen. I could see the muscles under his shirt and his deep blue eyes staring at me with the same expression.
I had found him. I found my mate.
