And in that one coffee shop, on that one day, two souls met. Their time was brief
But they were drawn together.
She met him there, and then she left, the fragments of smile still left on her face
And then
The accident
Happened.
She saw him on the circuit.
He was a way ahead. She started running,
Thinking perhaps it might be easier to wait;
For him to catch up. But laws would not permit it
And she hadn’t seen the taxi. One moment, he could go.
And so she kept running, through space and time.
Steps quickened. Strides lengthened. She called out to him
Across that realm, that ethereal realm; but no call answered. Words lost in space.
Years passed. Lives lived.
She lived and died and was reborn again
All the while, eyes on him. That soul.
Was she closer? Did he slow, to wait? Or did he too run
To find her, to reach her, to somehow catch up?
Minutes and seconds - lifetimes in that place.
Her steps never faltered. She would reach him one day.
257. Minutes, seconds, lives,
Years later, the shop still remained.
They stood face to face. Each into the other’s
Eyes they stared. No more backs. No more running.
Hello. Nice to meet you.
We met before.
This time around, they would make it go right.
