She awoke in a dark box, coughing up water. Where am I? She thought to herself. The box was cold and loud. How long had she been in here? Where was she going? Then it hit her like a massive brick wall. I can't remember anything. She did her best to grasp onto any sort of memory, but the best she got were objects from her unknown past. No people. No places. She punched the box wall, that she could hardly see in frustration. It dawned on her, that she had been in this godforsaken box for a while now. Panic set in and she started to freak herself out. What if I'm stuck here forever? What if I'm being sent to get killed? The possibilities went on and on. She had to get out.
About a half our passed until she gave up shaking the walls, punching them, and screaming for help. It was no use. All she could do now was cry and wait. Why me?
The box stopped and she sat for a few minutes, until the top opened, blinding her. Once her eyes focused on the world that now surrounded her new life, she saw a bunch of boys surrounding her. Who are they? She stood up and quickly rubbed away her evident tears. "Who are you people?" Her voice sounded different than she imagined. This was the first time that she spoke out loud.
"Names Newt greenie..." The tall, blonde, and handsome boy replied, with a thick British accent.
"Why am I here? Who are you people?" She asked almost letting a tear streak down her face.
"Hey, it's okay. We don't know why we are here. We're the gladers, and you are our new greenie." He answered, hopping down into the box to help her up.
"Stay away from me! Why can't I remember anything?" She backed away.
"None of us remember anything. You're just like the rest of us. Well, except you're a bloody girl." He says as another Glader lowers a rope into the box.
She reluctantly followed him to the rope, deciding she could be able to trust him eventually, and got on. The gladers pulled her out of the box, and whispered to each other. She could clearly hear what they were saying, even in their attempt to be quiet about it. They were talking about her like she was a peice of meat. She started to get annoyed.
Finally, she couldn't take it anymore, "I can hear every one of you!" She yelled, obviously upset.
The boys all stopped, and the glade grew silent, except for the sounds of animals.
"Everybody get back to work. Now." The voice came from behind her, but it wasn't the British boy this time. This kid was a bit older. He looked about 18 or so and had short brown hair. Newt stayed next to him, even though everybody else left. She felt a little bit less tense, now that most of them left her alone. She still had to deal with this new guy.
"I'm alby. I sort of run this place. Newt here is second in command. He'll show you around." The boy said after a few minutes.
"How do I know I can trust you." The girl replied.
"Because we are all the same." Newt began to walk towards a large building in the corner of what she now realized was a bigger box. Much bigger. The glade was surrounded on all four sides with towering concreate walls, covered in thick ivy and vines, and a door just as giganting on each side.
"You coming?" Newt asked snapping her out of the daze.
She nodded back, and took into consideration what he had said about them being the same, and decided she could really trust him.
"My name is Ellie." She informed him as they walked towards the big building.
