"Come on Ali let's go!" Kylie called out jogging forward, gripping her sword tightly to her chest. Skylar sprinted down the empty road, sticking close to Cole as the group tried out running an on coming faction of walkers. "I can't run anymore!" the short brunette shouted between breathes taking a short pause in her running. A walker was right on her track reaching forward with a raspy growl to grab onto Ali's arm. A high pitched squeal escaped her mouth, loud enough to attract more of the walking dead. Cole turned around and aimed his crossbow. In half a second, he shot the walker between the eyes knocking him to the ground. "Christ Ali, use your weapon and don't ever stop. Use that head of yours for once. Your scream is probably bringing a heard on our asses right now," Cole complained, glaring his baby blue eyes at Ali. She shuffled her feet against the concrete looking down at her wore out converse. "Cole lay off her will ya?" Eli chimed in taking the shovel he held, smacking an on coming zombie across the face. He took the knife from his back pocket and stabbed the zombie's skull ending its second "life." Cole mumbled a "whatever" under his breathe, collecting the bloody arrow that still laid in the center of the walker's face. Eli rolled his eyes wiping his knife on his blood stained shirt before plopping it back into his pocket. "Be more alert Ali, we don't need anything happening to you" Skylar whispered glancing around the area squinting her eyes at the four other walkers making their way up the road. "Here hop on my back" Eli suggested kneeling down in front of Ali. He took the backpack off his shoulders and handed it to her. "No I'm fine...really" she replied. "I know your tired, come on get on" he countered. She finally agreed, taking the backpack and putting it on. She jumped onto his back , wrapping her legs around his torso while she held onto his shoulders. The backpack added more weight to Eli as he carried Ali along the road. "Let's move, come on" Cole briskly stated taking the lead. "Kylie and Sky take care of those four" he added with a wave of his hand.
Kylie took the samurai looking sword out of its case and ran toward the new walkers. Skylar jogged forward with her crowbar obligating to Cole's simple orders, just as Kylie had. The group has been traveling on foot since the whole zombie epidemic started. They figured it would draw less attention then the roaring engine of a car. Kylie decapitated one of the walkers while Skylar stabbed the other's forehead. "This is so disgusting" she commented as the blood oozed out from its skull. "Still not used to the blood?" Kylie asked as she sliced the two remaining walkers in half. "I don't think I ever will, I don't have the strongest stomach.." she admitted holding onto her torso with one arm while the other held the bloody crowbar, making her way back to the group ahead. "The smell isn't too appetizing either" Kylie added with a crinkle of her nose as she placed the sword back into its case that was firmly secure in the belt loop of her dark blue jean shorts.
Cole had led the group through the forest to an upcoming abandoned town a mile or two away from the city of San Francisco. They have been walking for at least five hours and the town was a small relief. "Alright, we will rest in one of the houses for the night and move into San Francisco in the morning. We need to raid the houses for any food because we are dangerously low," he stated with a small yawn. Everyone nodded in understanding, wondering what they would do if they ran out of food.
"You think the CDC are still working on that cure?" Sky mumbled with small hope. "Yeah I'm sure they are Sky" Eli replied with a clear voice masking the lie he was telling. The Center For Disease control claimed that they were working 24/7 on this "cure" for the world, but that was three months ago before the world lost contact with local news stations and the government. Since then, no one has heard a single thing about the CDC. However, Skylar thinks they are still working hard to fix the rapidly spreading disease that has infected everyone even without a bite. Eli didn't have the heart to tell those lively blue eyes the truth of the matter that the CDC was most likely overrun. "Yo, Ali wake up" he lightly whispered over his shoulder. She let out a small whimper and continued to sleep. "I swear that girl could sleep through anything" Cole said with a deep chuckle. "It's incredible, I wish I could sleep like her" Eli added adjusting his single grip on her upper thigh. "Guys come on, lets split up and search for food then meet up by that yellow camaro down the block" Kylie stated pointing to the car in far sight.
"Sounds good, if a heard comes just scream and we will come find you. Stay safe, and I guess Ali sticks with me since she's out cold" Eli said with a light shrug of his shoulders. "Grab whatever is good and try to fill up your backpacks as much as possible, and don't use your gun. We don't need to attract walkers to us" Cole said beginning to enter the first house on the block. Skylar walked across the street and Eli started further down the block. Kylie took the second house, slowly opening the front door while holding out her sword. She scoped the area not hearing a trace of any human or dead corpse. She entered the kitchen opening the cupboards and grabbing a few cans of peaches and beans. It was unusually odd that each cabinet she inspected was filled up to capacity with supplies. Even a first aid kit was hidden at the back of one cabinet under the kitchen sink. Something wasn't right.
Kylie looked around the brightly lit room and spotted on the tiled floor. She crouched down eyeing a shiny wire that stretched all the way to the other side of the room. She lightly taped it not wanting to break it herself to see if there was a hidden consequence. She mumbled a curse word and got up from the floor. A walker's dead body rested in the hallway connecting the vacant house's kitchen and living room. She dragged the body with one hand back to the kitchen and threw it toward the wire. Kylie ducked behind the refrigerator widening her eyes as a hatchet swung down from the ceiling. The house was booby trapped. A beeping alarm sounded off twice before it was shut off abruptly. Her eyebrows scrunched together in confused as she glanced around the room alarmed at what other traps the house would hold. She tip toed back to her open backpack and zipped it back up. She only scavenged about four cans but needed to warn the others about the possible threat in each house. "What the fuck do you think you're doing stealing my food" a deep British accent called out from behind Kylie's back. "Borrowing. I'm borrowing the food" she replied with a slight smirk, slowly rising from the ground with her sword tightly clutched in her hand. "Drop your weapon and turn around" the foreign voice demanded.
