I walk into class, late, of course. Why does my mom always have to be so late to take me to school? I made her take me to school because the bus might arrive late, you never know, and here I am, late for class, on the first day of grade 8.My homeroom teacher, Mr. Mark, gives me a welcoming smile, which I almost rudely roll my eyes at, but luckily stop myself. The whole class is watching me, and I feel my face flush with anxiety. I quickly scan the room, recognizing most of the students from last year. there are a few new students. I see a pretty girl sitting next to Suzanna Jason, she wont become my friend, I know it. I see a few new guys, none are cute. Ugh. Another boring school year coming ahead.
I slowly and hesitantly walk to the only empty seat in the room, next to Amelia Lane, the shyest girl I have ever met. I really hope this wont be my seat for the rest of the year, im a very talkative person, by the way. I cant survive without having someone to talk to. Next to me on the other side sits Sophia Lee. She's okay, won't give me any answers, though. "why are you so sad?" she whispers into my ear. I know for a fact that she'll ask me that question every single time I come into class. I'm just not the smiling type of person, okay?
"you think I'll be happy when I come to school only to find out that a demented bald potato is my homeroom teacher?" I whisper back. She gives me a questioning look, and quickly turns away.
"okay, we'll start by having every person introduce himself to the class. tell us your name, age, and your favourite subject in school," exclaims Mr. shitty Mark.
Everybody goes and it's finally my turn, "my name's Rawd (ugh, worst name ever)I'm 12, and..." what do I say? I don't have a favourite subject, "and I don't have a favourite subject because school sucks," I say, truthfully, in an obviously bored voice.
I walk in the hallway towards my assigned locker, passing by Rosamund Barlow, one of my best friends. "Hi, wussup?" I ask, "do you like my hair?". I recently died my hair red at the front. I haven't seen her all summer and she didn't get a chance to see it. I really really really miss her, too.
"yeah, it's nice," she answers without even looking at me,"sorry, Rawd, I don't have time to talk, bye!!" she hurriedly exclaims while running away from me. Am I that scary? what's wrong? why does nobody wanna talk to me?
later, we had ELA class. I arrive to class late. Great. The only empty seat left for me is the one beside the new, pretty girl. Maria? I'm not sure. I awkwardly make my way to the seat next to her. She smells good. "Hi, I'm Mr. Ryan," says the teacher, "I will be teaching you English Language Arts, ELA for short," He continues," I want you to tell the person next to you what you expect of ELA class."
"No homework," I tell Maria, "wait, one question, what's your name?" I ask, just in case.
"I'm Mariam."
"Oh. Thought you were Maria. close enough"
"Oh. Anyway, what I expect of ELA..." says Mariam, " allow us to skip classes!"
"Let us swear in class!"
"Oh my god, I wish!" laughs Mariam
We openly laugh together for what I think is 30 seconds, but actually, it was probably 5 minutes.
I walk in the hallway with Mariam after class, passing by Rosamund and the girls. I don't try to open a conversation, it wont do me any good, anyway. But Angela just comes up to me and loudly exclaims, "Oh my gosh! Aseem watches anime! *gasp*".
"Who the hell is Aseem?" I ask
"He's this new kid, AND HE WATCHES ANIME OH MY GURD!!!"
Me and Mariam continue our walk to class. My friends and I really like to watch anime, they are Juliette, Angela, and Rosamund. We're the anime group.
"I like to watch anime..." says Mariam in a quiet voice
