Alex to the side.
Chapter One
Alex's POV
My tail was flicking back and forth as my nerves began to get the best of me. It was the first day of my junior year and I was currently trying to get the locker I was assigned open while still holding the multitude of books I need for the year. My mother thought it would be best to make me study over the summer instead of making friends in the new neighborhood we moved to; so now a majority of my classes are with the seniors I pray won't kill me or target me for bullying due to my ears. Being a neko only has a few perks when it comes to school and that's mainly being allowed to wear a beanie everyday.
I can hear the chatter of the other students here. Some are talking about how their summer went while others are talking about the large group of people that are suppose to be starting here today as well. I'm actually very happy that they're to focused on the larger group of people that are coming instead of noticing me. Is that wrong of me to be happy that those people will get all of the attention? Oh well, I'll feel guilty about it later.
Sighing in relief I finally get my locker open and am able to put my books onto the shelf inside of it. Taking a magnet from my backpack I put my schedule up and sort my books by which classes I have first to the classes I have last. Putting my backpack on the hallway floor I unzip it and pull out my simple black lunch box and put it on the shelf with my books. Turning back to my bag I grab my pencil pouch and stood up with my backpack in my right hand and my pencil pouch in my left, quickly hanging my backpack in my locker I took my science textbook out and closed and locked my locker. I should really remember to never take my books from my backpack before my locker is open.
Looking down at the map of the school I find the science class room and groan quietly when I see it's on the second floor of the school. Holding my book, pencil pouch and map close to my chest I begin to weave my way past all of the students that have begun to flood the halls; but not before wincing at the sound of the bell that I had managed to make my way next to right as it had gone off. Shaking my head I rush the rest of the way to the staircase and make my way up it. Once I make it up to the top of the stairs I'm panting slightly. I'm not exactly what you would call athletic.
Making my way into the classroom I check the board to find that my teacher's name is Mr. Rains, it's a different name. I like it. Sitting down at the seat once over from the chair closet to the door at the front table I set my things down happily. My happiness doesn't last very long though because not to much later my senses are caught finding a faint dog scent. My tail has bristled into a bush at my fear, dogs and I do not mix well.
Taking a deep breath I look to the door to see a taller boy walk in, but in my defense basically every guy is taller than me that I've seen so far. His green, maybe blue-grey eyes lock onto me as before he nods and sits towards the back of the classroom. Five minutes later the bell rings and Mr. Rains walks into the room.
"Good morning class, I'm Mr. Rains as the board says and this is science for your senior year." Sitting down at his desk he read over a note and look around the class. "It appears that we have two new students for this class. Alex, Mason, could you please come stand up in the front of the room and introduce yourselves." It wasn't a question, and that was when I decided to just give up on the thought of not having any bullies.
Standing in the front of the room next to Mason I grabbed onto my tail and peaked up at him only to find him already looking down at me expectantly. Sighing, I turned my attention to the rest of the class and waved a little. "I, uh, I'm Alex."
Mr. Rains obviously didn't think my introduction as to who I was was enough because he told me to tell the class more about myself.
"I'm a neko. It happens all around the world, so no I'm not the only one or some freak of nature. I live with my mom and my dad and I just moved here this past summer." Rushing this out I looked down at my shoes and stood there awkwardly until Mason cleared his throat.
