The black agile tom jumped up on the high branch. He lept from branch to branch until he reached the meeting spot.
"You name suits you well Blacksquirrel." A brown tom commented.
"Greetings Gopherheart. Is everyone here already?" Blacksquirrel asked.
"Not quite." A bright orange she-cat said. "Sprucestar should..."
"Hello." The brown and black thick furred tom entered the clearing. He jumped on a tree stump in the middle of it. "We have gathered here today to discuss the new prophecy."
"Another?" A small dark tabby she-cat questioned while rolling her eyes.
"Wildpaw, these are very important." Rayflower quieted her.
She didn't listen to her. "There seem to be prophecies left and right now a days. I say we take some time and look at the bigger picture before we pile these prophecies on the clans. Some of them even contradict each other! We can't just tell the clans every single one."
"What if one of these could mean life or death for the clans? Our clanmates aren't stupid. They'll be able to figure it out." Gopherheart said.
The clearing burst into arguments with everyone trying to state their opinions. Only one cat remained silent.
"Hold on!" Sprucestar silenced them all. Everyone looked at him.
"What do you think Blacksquirrel? You're son will be leading the expedition." He asked the quiet tom.
"I think we should hold off on the prophecies and simply let things unfold. No matter what we do nothing can go right, correct? Might as well make it a little less confusing for them. If we spew prophecies at them, then by the time there's a real prophecy they may not believe us." He explained.
Most nodded in agreement, only a few muttered otherwise.
"Then it is settled!" Sprucestar announced. "We will let them go on their journey and hold back any new prophecies."Shadedmoss looked out over the desolate charred forest. There was no more forest in fact, it had all been burnt to the ground.
"What in StarClan's name..." Honeyfall trailed off.
They stood there for what felt like days to Shadedmoss, looking in disbelief at the scene that was before them.
"Two moons." Owlrunner stated. "Two moons away from my mate and this is what I get!" He growled and dug his claws into the ash. "Two moons!" He yowled with extreme anger. The thin, tall dark brown tabby tom stalked off in rage.
Cloudheart went after him, even though it would take a lot of effort to calm down Owlrunner's temper. Shadedmoss watched as the all white she-cat padded along the angry tom's trail.
"What are we going to do?" Honeyfall questioned more to herself than to Shadedmoss.
They had spent two moons away from their homes to seek out this mysterious threat that StarClan said would defeat the clans unless they reacted right away. These rogues certainly wouldn't attack or hurt the clans now.
The black tom with striking green eyes turned to her. "Should we go back home?"
The light ginger she-cat looked at him. "Again?"
The whole trip actually wasn't supposed to take two moons. In fact, they had gone back to camp three times. The first time they set out there were six cats, Shadedmoss's younger sister Mousepaw along with Owlrunner's best friend Raccoonfur. Raccoonfur was the original chosen cat from MoorClan, but he broke his leg on a thunder path and we had to go back. Owlrunner volunteered to take his friend's place. Soon after they got lost and had to go back to our starting point to get things straight. Shadedmoss's mother Maplestar wanted Mousepaw to resume her training, and they set off again for the third time with four cats. They'd gotten lost, but kind kittypets and loners had helped them along the way.
Now we're here. Shadedmoss thought. But I have no clue what to do. StarClan please help!
They rested that night and then set off for home again. This time it only took them a quarter moon to get home.
But when they got home they didn't want to stay there. They had spent two moons together and they knew each other like clanmates, while they hadn't seen their actual clanmates in a long time.
"Shadedmoss," Honeyfall whispered to him.
"Yes?" He asked.
"I will miss you all when we have to leave." She said.
He sighed. "I will too. I honestly don't want to go back to my mother."
"Really? I don't really want to see my sister again. Gingerleaf is such a show off, and she always thinks she's better than me." She replied.
"Hey, maybe we don't have to go back?" Shadedmoss's eyes lit up at the thought.
"What do you mean? We can't just leave our clan." She frowned.
"Well we can say goodbye, but why not? We could live as loners and be happy." The black tom said wistfully.
"Won't you miss your sisters?" She asked.
Shadedmoss thought about that. Of course he would miss Mousepaw, but not Sparrowpaw or Blossompaw. Only Mousepaw was nice to him.
"Just Mousepaw, but she might come with us." He responded.
"I don't know, I'll have to think about it." She said, but he knew she'd say yes.
