‘’Wait; just tell me one more time. Please!’’  Jess laughed over a spoon full of Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream. Shaking her head in dismay, Rebecca recited the story of how she made an utter fool of herself, for the tenth time to her giggling sister. ‘’I still cannot believe you tipped your milkshake over him!’’ Frowning, Rebecca replied, ‘’It’s not like I did it on purpose! It was a complete accident.’ With that, she snatched the tub of half eaten ice-cream back off her sister.

They were both sitting on the floor of Jessica’s bedroom in their PJ’s, painting each other’s nails, eating ice-cream and over all having a really good time. Normally Jessica would either be too busy with her boyfriend or Rebecca would be studying for collage, for them to have any time to spend with one another.  But tonight was different. Tonight they could have one of their girly-night-ins they used to have so often when they were little.

‘’So...’’ Jess said, ‘’was he hot?’’ they both grinned at each other and Rebecca blushed a little. ‘’I’ll take that as a yes.’’ She said, applying a coat of purple nail vanish to Rebecca’s big toe. ‘’What was his name?’ she questioned. Rebecca went to tell her, but discovered she had to think first. What was mystery boy’s name? She was sure he told her...‘’I don’t know,’’ she admitted sadly. Jess stopped painting her toe and looked up with a shocked look on her face. ‘’You don’t know his name, how can you not know this guy’s name!?’’ Rebecca shrugged. ‘’He didn’t tell me’’   ‘‘Rule number one my little sister: Always find out his name, mobile number and whether or not he’s single.’’ Smiling to herself Jess continued paint Rebecca’s toes purple, adding a bit of glitter once the first coat was dry.

They did not speak for around half hour. They both just concentrated on each other’s toes and then finger nails. Braking the peaceful silence Rebecca asked ‘’How was your date with Michael?’’ She had no answer. Jess just sat there, examining her nails like a piece of art work.  ‘Fine,’ Jess finally said. Normally Rebecca would have just dropped the subject, not being that interested in her sister’s love life. But, Michael had looked like a really nice guy. He had dressed nice and smelled nice and even treated her sister nice. She had an obligation to Michael to push the topic further. ‘’That’s it, just ‘nice’?’’ she was not convinced. Usually Jess could not shut up about her dates with her boyfriends, but now she had not mutter a word about it since she came in.

With a sigh, Jess placed her hands in her lap and looked at Rebecca. ‘’I mean... he was nice and all, but there was no spark between us.’’

‘What, because you did not sleep with him straight after?’’ Jess looked stunned.

‘’Beck! It’s not all about sex you know!’’ Blushing, Jess looked away.

‘’I know that, but do you?’’ Rebecca questioned. Before the conversation could go any further, the phone started to ring in the living room. ‘’I’ll get!’’ shouted Jess, but Rebecca beat her to it. Picking up the phone she answered ‘’Hello?’’

‘’Miss. Madison?’’ it was the voice of Percy, their landlord.

‘’Speaking,’’ she replied.

‘’A gentleman dropped off an envelope a few hours ago and insisted that you got it straight away. It’s down here waiting for you. Goodnight.’’ And he hung up.

Huh, strange. Confusion written all over Rebecca’s face, she turned and walked back into her sister’s room. ‘’Who was it?’’ Jess asked, just a bit too eagerly.

‘’Percy, he said a gentleman had dropped off a letter for me.’’ Turning to face her sister she said, ‘’But I think it was for you. Most probably Brad trying to be romantic by leaving you a love letter. First flowers now this, whatever next...?’’ she joked.

‘’Egh, Brad. Don’t remind me. Wait, what flowers!?’’ Jess demanded. Oh, she had not told her about Brads little present this morning. ‘’Nothing, just some cheap Lilies he left outside our door.’’ Picking up a brush, Rebecca started to brush her long hair, smiling as the curls cascaded down her back. ‘’He left a note as well,’’ she added. ‘’Awww, that was sweet of him. What did it say?’’ all the anger had left her eyes. Jess just sat there, looking dreamily into the future. ‘’Saying that he was sorry and that he thought it was you who was in that hot tub. Which reminds me, what hot tub?’’ Jess waved away Rebecca’s pointless question and continued to think. Just sitting their staring at the wall, Jess started to freak Rebecca out. ‘’Hello, earth to Jess?’’ Jumping slightly, Jess scowled at Rebecca. ‘’I need to read that letter, go get it for me?’’ Jess gave her the puppy dog eyes. Shame on her, didn’t she know that it did not work on her anymore. Not since she was nine anyway... Rebecca shuddered at the thought. ‘’No way, I’m in my jammy’s! And besides, it’s half eleven. You got get it,’’ Jess frowned.

‘’I can’t.’’ She said.

‘’And why is that?’’ Rebecca questioned.

‘’It’s cold.’’ Rolling her eyes, Rebecca slid her feet into her sheep slippers, put on her dressing gown and headed for the door. ‘’Fine. But you owe me!’’ she said.

‘’Thank you!’’ Jess shouted after her, excitement oozing out of her words.

‘’Yeah yeah’’ Rebecca muttered.

Stepping into the elevator, Rebecca was already frozen. Testing to see how cold it was, she breathed into the air to see a white cloud escape from her mouth. Shivering, the elevator touched down on the ground floor. Stepping out in her slippers, Rebecca headed for the front desk. ‘’Good evening Rebecca, a bit late for a stroll,’’ commented Henry, the night guard. ‘Just.....just picking...something up’’ she stuttered between the shivers.  Standing there, all nice and warm, Rebecca envied him for a moment.

Finally reaching front desk, Rebecca tapped on the bell once...twice... three times. ‘’I’m coming, I’m coming.’ Complained Percy. Walking out of the backroom, Percy had a tired look on his face, but that changed as soon as he saw Rebecca. His golden eyes lit up like a Christmas tree and his lips turned up into a smile. ‘’Oh, Rebecca, what are you doing down here so late?’’ he asked.

‘’Just came to pick up that envelope Percy,’’ she said. Still smiling, Percy passed her the envelope she could see clearly on his desk. ‘’Here you go.’’ He said. Smiling thanks, Rebecca turned to go.

‘’Right,’’ she said, walking back through the apartment door, ‘’I got it’’ Jess was no longer in her room; she was sitting on the white leather sofa in the living area, warm hot coco in her hands. ‘’ Oh goodie’’ she squealed. Sitting next to her, Rebecca handed her sister the envelope.

About to take it, Jess snatched her hand back. ‘’I can’t,’’ she confessed.

‘’Why not?’’ Rebecca asked.

‘’What if I don’t like it? You read it. Besides, it might not even be for me,’’ she had a point, Rebecca had to admit. Tearing the letter open and pulling the little slip of paper out from inside, Rebecca licked her lips and began to read: ‘’Penelope’s Lavish Laundrette. Bill for £59.99!?’’ Her eyes were wide open and her jaw nearly touching the fall. ‘That’s it!?’’ Jess exclaimed ‘’All that time wasted just for your extremely high laundry bill! Unbelievable.’’ Sliding off the sofa Jess walked away, leaving Rebecca with her mouth wide open. This was some kind of joke, it had to be. Who would send her a laundry bill? Scanning the paper for a name, Rebecca finally found one. Eric Prescott. Who in God’s name was ‘Eric Prescott’? ‘’Hey, Jess, you know an Eric Prescott?’’ she asked her sister. Sitting back down next to her, Jess shook her head. ‘’Nope, why?’’

‘’Because he just sent me his laundry bill,’’ she replied, handing Jess the slip of paper. ‘’Must be the wrong address.’’ Reading over it Jess flipped the paper over and read ‘’Thanks for the milkshake.’’ Confused at first, realization finally appeared on Jesses face. ‘’No frigging way! It’s that guy from Mindy’s! He must have found out your address and sent you this,’’ she waved the bill in the air frantically in front Rebecca’s face. ‘’Well,’’ she said, taking it out of Jesses flying hands, ‘’I’m not paying it,’’ And with that, she threw it in the waste paper bin.
