I don't know how much longer I can do this. "NOW!" he screamed. I pushed my head back into my knees and let the tears push out of my eyes.
He's drunk, again. I should've guessed, I mean, he's never not.
He kept screaming things that I don't want to deal with at the moment. I've already got a bruise the size of a softball on my stomach from him pushing me down and then kicking my ribcage.
I opened my window, and put my legs out first onto the roof. Then my torso, bending to get under the window and out. I could see the burnt orange and yellows of the sunset in the distance on the horizon line.
I stood for a bit until deciding I should get out for a while. Maybe he won't get drunk again when he wakes up tomorrow. Maybe.
I walked to the corner of the roof and pushed my weight onto the first step of the silver ladder I placed here, when I got home from school.
Reaching the end, I placed my headphones into my ears and pushed my hands into my pockets. i grabbed my skateboard from the garage, soon gliding it on the smooth pavement of the sidewalk. I hate this. My family used to be so put together and loving and its all gone.
I need a new start.
I need a new Michael.
All of the sudden as I passed a local drug store I saw a girl.
Her hair, neon, florescent, blue.
It was straight and long and blue.
I slowed approaching the store and looked at her, pulling the headphone out if my ears. She stood there and then noticed me starring at her hair. tilting her eyes up, as if she was looking at her hair she looked at me and smiled shyly.
"Do you like it?" She asked pointing at her hair.
I don't talk to people much, almost not at all. But i couldn't just stand there like an idiot and stare at her hair like a creep.
"Y-yeah, where'd you get that done?" I asked, fascinated with the bright color.
"Oh, I did it. Why? Do you want something like this?" She asked "I'd look good on you I think." She said."Yeah, i-i really like it. Where do you get the dye?" I asked.
"Oh, you can actually get some from there, I just got some dye for my next color, I'm going retro-purple. Cool, right?" She said eyeing the grocery bag hanging from her hand."Yeah, cool." I replied shyly. "Um, could I catch your name?" I asked looking down from her awing hair, to her green light eyes.
"Nona."
Nona? Never heard something quite like, Nona, but I like it.
"Its nice." I stood blankly again gawking at her bright hair.
"And you are?" She asked nicely.
"Mich-Michael. My name's Michael." I shuttered out.
Really Michael. Can't even talk to a girl, can you. I thought.
"Lovely, I hope to see you at school. Clifford is it?" She asked.
Guess she knows me. I knew I've seen that face before, but not the hair. The hair was new. It must've been a summer thing.
"Yes. Clifford. Um, how long have you lived here? In this town?" I asked.
"Just two years. Not as long as you, I've heard."
Yeah. Not as long as me."I want the blue." I blurted out louder then I would've liked.
"Go on then," she pointed at the store, "nobody's stopping you." She smiled at me before walking past me and waving.
Nobody's stopping you.
She's right.
The door squeaked as I opened it.
Blue.
