"What's that, Mikey?" Lillie asked. She glanced at the tube of illuminating blue hair dye in my hand.
I looked at her immature, adorable, 5 year old face, blue eyes shining at the dye.
"I'm gonna make my hair blue, Lil."
She gasped and giggled.
"Can I help? I wanna help! Please, oh please, Mikey?" She begged."Fine, little bear, come here, I'll show you what to do."
She smiled at me and clapped, letting out an excited 'Yay!'.

"but why not?" lillie whined.
I looked at her with serious eyes
"Lillie, what would dad do if you came home from day care with blue hair? Huh?" I said raising my eyebrows.
She looked up at me, shaking her head frantically.
"No, no, no. I don't want blue hair Mikey. I don't. No. I don't."
I didn't want to have to make an example of the man claimed as my father.
Father.
No.
Just a guy that helped make me.
He once told me that I was the worst thing that happened to him.
I didn't ask to be born. I didn't want this life.I haven't tried. But I've thought about it. Ending it. Many times.

"Michael. This behavior is unacceptable. Students are to be in class with the appropriate supplies for that subject by the second bell. You understand that you must continue this process throughout the school hours, correct?"
I sighed trying to keep my eyes from rolling.
"Yes, ma'am but I was lost. I didn't just wonder around for 45 minutes of first lesson for my health." I retorted.
"I will be lenient, but only because this is the first day of senior year. I want you to find someone in your first lesson to walk with you your class. Is my point clear?"
"Yes, Mrs. Hanlock."
I approached the door but was stopped but her continuously annoying voice.
"And, Mr. Clifford. What did you do to your hair?" She asked in an irrelevant tone.
"Blue."
Is all I said before slipping out of the cubic office.
I entered second lesson late.
After taking my seat in the halfway point of the room, almost the middle, I see bright, straight, blue, hair. She sits on the right side of the room a bit closer to the front then me. As I took my seat she looked back at me with wide eyes and smiled.
'Your hair' she mouthed and smiled, while frantically pointing at her hair to hint to mine.
I grinned. The rest of class I tried to focus but couldn't get the fact out that I almost budged a real smile today. Real.
4th hour is lunch. I didn't enjoy attempting to sit with everyone in the cafeteria. But hey, senior year, first day, give it a chance. I sat down before anyone was even out of the lunch line. Setting my backpack down, I pulled my small, packed lunch, out of my backpack. All i had was a sub I got from the gas station and a Pepsi.
"Wow, look who crawled out of the cave."
I clenched my jaw.Jase Worthington. I'm sure you can assume what he's like. You know the cliche.
Sure he's got all the girls (and some guys) drooling over him, and a 'hot' girlfriend, and quarter back of the football team. This part makes me laugh every time. He's actually the worst on the whole team.
I chuckled to myself.
Nobody has the guts to tell him, though. His dad's the coach, so whatever he wants to be on the team, he is.
"Wow, look who crawled out of the cave."
"I'm sorry, your girlfriend isn't here." I mumbled.
He nearly choked on his energy drink.
"What the fu- hey baby."
This would be the 'hot' girlfriend.
Her name is DanaGrace Jackmen.
She's a straight A student, brunette, vegetarian, goody-twoshoes, popular, rich, pretty (well I don't think she is but whatever), 'innocent'- in reality backstabbing bitch. So yeah.
She drew him away from my table, thank god.
I just went about, sitting at this empty table, eating my sub, when someone sits down across from me.
I heard sniffles and hiccups coming from that side. Looking up, I saw...Nona?
I looked up at her scared.
"Nona?" I asked. She looked up and scoffed.
"I suppose you dyed your hair for attention." She said in an annoying voice.
"What?"
"Slut, no one will want you because of your hair. Whore. Disgusting. Try hard. Just stop trying. We'll all be happier."
She kept repeating dreadful things, over and over, I sat listening until it looked like she was having a panic attack.I ran over to her side of the table a cupped her face. This girl. I'd only met yesterday, I am now closer to her then I have been with any human being in a long time. I looked straight in her eyes.
"No, none of its true. I know. You wanted to be unique, not get guys. I know that. You aren't any of those things, Nona. I promise. Please, stop saying those awful things." She stood to catch her breath and put her hands on my hands. Slowly pulling them off of her cheeks. She stood up and pulled me into a hug. A real, genuine, heart warming hug. She stood on her tippy toes with her hands around my neck, tucking her head away into my chest. I hesitated at first but then awkwardly but surely wrapped my hand around her waist. She pulled away and looked at me.
"Thank you, Michael."
