Chapter 8 - Change of Heart

Nona

" What." I asked looking around the mall. I've never really been to a mall, but my mom has. It's like an everyday thing for her. I join her only once and a while, if she's lucky I ever leave my room that is. One time, I remember she practically dragged me out of my bed to wait in line with her on Black Friday to get some sort of limited time purse that was suppose to be on sale. That purse cost like a thousand dollars! I was also the one who had to fight off this fat chick to get the last one too! She freaking sat on me the whole time and my mom had to roll her off while I guarded the purse under my shirt! By the time we got home I was tired, afraid and bruised. That was like the worst day of my life.

" Come on, were going to enjoy this moment." Trent told me while grabbing my hand and putting it over his arm. He pulled me towards the mall as I just followed behind. He took me to this one store called Game Shop, typical. One step in and he ditched me for a game controller, I rolled my eyes as I took a peek at what he was playing.

" Is this what you mean by enjoying the moment, killing zombies?" I asked crossing my arms.

"Heck yeah. Come over here and try it." he pulled me over to the controller and placed it in my hands while he stood behind me. We were so close that I could feel his cool breath on my neck. He put his fingers on top of mine, helping me familiarize with the controls . I felt tense just by his touch of his warm hands, it felt so nice.

" Okay, when that zombie comes click Z to activate your gun. Ready it's coming! One, two, three!" I aimed and pushed Z demolishing the brain eating monster with a snap. Trent smiled, giving me a high five.

" Are we going to do this all day?" I asked as he turned to me.

" Maybe..."

" Trent!" I whined walking out the store as he followed behind.

" Aw, Nona why do you have to be so lame." he told me as I just smiled.

That afternoon we hung out at the arcade playing rounds of ski ball and pacman. Trent won me a stuffed teddy bear after fifty attempts at the claw machine. We probably spent around a hundred bucks at just the arcade. When we got hungry we decided to hit the food court and grab some ice cremes. Trent got chocolate and I got strawberry.

" Trent." I called as he turned around right into my ice cream. There was strawberry ice cream all over his nose and lips. I laughed just seeing his expression, it was priceless. He shoved his ice cream into my face as he laughed back.

I could feel the chocolate up my nose!

" Revenge is sweet." he smirked.

" What a lame comeback" I told him as I got some tissues and began cleaning up the sticky mess on my face. I looked at Trent who was still smiling.

" Here let me help you wipe that smirk off your face." I took a handful of tissues and began rubbing them hard across his face. I made sure to get every spot as he tried to fight me off.

" AGHHH! Nona!" he yelped when I finally released him. I just giggled as I finished scrubbing the rest of the ice cream off his face, gently this time. When we finished goofing off we sat at a bench near the mall's fountain display. We licked our ice cremes in silence, watching crowds of people pass by. Trent decided to break the silence by asking me a question.

"Are you mad at me?"

I turned to him with my puzzled expression.

"For what?" I asked.

"For making you keep this mate thing a secret."

I paused and thought about it. Then I continued to lick my ice creme, looking at bystanders as they passed by.

"Kind of. I don't know why you want to keep it a secret, but I know you have your reasons. Whatever they might be, I'll accept them and wait for you. Because you are my one and only mate, I want things to work out for us." I smiled and poked him at the chest. His expression grew stiff, like what I just said was unbelievable to him.

"What are you?' he asked amazed.

" Who me? I'm just a simple girl with a big heart for her loser mate." I batted my eyelashes at him as his face turned bitter.

"Ugh, whatever!" he stammered. He got up from the bench and walked away. I just laughed as I followed him to his car. It was already dark outside so we decided to hit the road and go home. As Trent drove, he put on some music and we talked about the random things in our lives.

I told him I have a fear of heights and public speaking, and a love of vintage photography and art. I also explained to him how I use my free time on the internet, watching useless cat videos and streaming pics of them as my background for my laptop. He told me about his family, he talked about his carefree dad and his mother who was currently visiting London with his younger brother. He also revealed that his favorite color was red and his loved the feeling of cold showers. When asked about any fears, he told me he had none. I called him a liar and he got mad saying that, "a true man has none."

The whole ride was peaceful. We got to know each other on a whole new level. We got to know the little likes and dislikes in our lives.

Today I was pretty glad that we went to the mall. I was glad that I was able to spend the day with Trent. I did something new and  I loved it.

Being with my mate is the best.
