"Slade?" I question in disbelief.
"Hey Grace" he greets with a smile.
"What are you doing? Are you following me?" I ask.
Oh please, like he's going to be following you.
"Not necessarily, I was just walking the same way you were" he states.
"Oh....so where exactly are you going?" I ask.
Do you care? Why are you even asking just turn around and go home!
"Just...for a walk" he replies.
I nod.
"Well it was nice seeing you, bye" I say nervously turning my heels and quickly beginning to walk again.
"Wait!" he calls out causing me to stop once again.
"Yes?" I question turning the side of my body to face him.
"Why do you avoid me?" he asks.
"Uh...I don't" I respond.
"You do" he states walking towards me.
"I-I" I begin to say but my nerves get the best of me as he walks closer to me.
"Why don't you want to be around me?" he asks stopping once he's reached a decent distance.
"Why do you want to be around me" I blurt out.
"Because we're friends" he states stuffing his hands into his pockets.
"That's impossible" I whisper.
"What is" he whispers back mockingly.
"People like you can't be friends with people like me" I inform.
"Why not?" he questions.
"Because, popular people don't take interest, nor be around unpopular people" I clarify.
"Why not?" he repeats.
I sigh.
Is he seriously that slow?
"Because if you didn't already know, I'm a geek. You're clearly not, you're the school's most popular badboy" I explain.
He laughs.
I give him a puzzled look.
Did I say some type of joke?
"Grace, those are just labels. To me you're not a geek, you're just Grace Evans. And people don't choose who I do or don't be friends with" he states causing my heart to flutter in a way.
Wow, I had no idea he was.....sweet.
"I choose you as a friend. Ok?" he questions.
"Ok" I reply quietly pushing my glasses up with my middle finger.
"Can I walk you home?" he asks.
His question shocked me at first causing my nerves to activate once again.
I slowly nod not trusting my mouth to speak, and knowing if I said no he would tag along anyway.
"Awesome. So how was school?" he asked as we walked side by side.
"Good, how about for you?" I ask and we continued the conversation answering and asking about each other's lives.
And I have to say it turned out pretty good. He wasn't after all a jerk I've always thought he was.
I learned he worked at a car-repair store, lived with his father, loved taking long walks, had a younger brother, and enjoyed reading.
I didn't know why but I felt pretty proud of myself for having a talk like that with a guy like him.
