Coffee in the morning was always necessary for Annabeth to start her day. What helped a lot was that there was a small coffee shop near her apartment complex about a block away. She walked there almost every morning to get coffee and work on her designs. The coffee shop was called Rose Café, it had a red rose next to the "R" and it was small and cozy, and Annabeth loved it. She walked down the quiet street and pulled her jacket around herself again. It was chilly but she knew that Rose Café would be nice and warm. It always was. She turned into the the porch of the coffee shop and quickly opened the door and stepped inside.
As usual, there was no one there, it was very early in the morning, and the slight scent of roses mixed with coffee beans filled the air. Rose Café usually played soft music that Annabeth never really liked, but she had forgotten her earbuds so she would have to put up with it. But the café's soft music wasn't playing. Instead she heard the voice of Andy Biersack singing along with Jake's amazing guitar solos an C.C.'s drums banging along with them. Of course there was Ashley and Jinxx, and Annabeth loved them all. She smiled to herself as the girl she had become aquatinted with stepped out of a room in the back singing along quietly. She saw Annabeth and smiled.
"Morning Annabeth. Your usual I suppose.?" she asked walking behind the counter.
" Good morning Piper. And yes. My usual would be nice," Annabeth said taking out her wallet from her purse, but Piper shook her head and placed her hand over Annabeth's.
"Don't worry about it. It's on the house," Piper insisted. "Do you mind the music?"
"Not at all! I love Black Veil Brides!" Annabeth exclaimed while walking over and placing her bag in a seat and removing her jacket.
Piper grinned widely and turned away to fix Annabeth's coffee, who started singing along. Piper brought her steaming cup over to her.
"Mind if I sit down?" She asked.
"Not at all, "Annabeth said taking her cup from Piper. "In fact that would be lovely."
There was a glint in Piper's eyes and a slight blush on her cheeks as she sat down on the couch next to Annabeth. She scooted closer as Annabeth brought out her laptop and opened to a story she had been working on. Piper read it silently over here shoulder.
"That's really good,"she commented.
Annabeth blushed and mumbled a quiet "thank you" and skimmed it, editing pieces, fixing typos and adding commas. She felt Piper lean her shoulder against her arm and lay her head on her shoulder. She smiled to herself, aware of how red her cheeks must be. Piper noticed and chuckled and began to sing along to the next song.
Annabeth stopped typing and just listened to Piper sing. She had a beautiful voice that could hypnotize you. If she asked Annabeth anything, she would have been compelled to do it. Piper stopped singing looking up at Annabeth.
"You have pretty eyes."
Annabeth blushed again. Really she thought her eyes were plain and dim. She always admired Piper's eyes. She could never quite figure out what color they were.
"You- you have,uh, pretty eyes as well," Annabeth stuttered.
"Thank you," Piper said and placed her hand on Annabeth's thigh. It was such a small amount of affection, but Annabeth felt like her heart was pounding out of her chest. Butterflies banged violently around in her stomach. She shakily took another sip of her coffee.
"Uh, Piper, can I uh, say something?" She asked nervously. She had rehearsed this in front of the mirror, thought up all the possibilities and outcomes of what Piper might say or do. She had felt prepared. All that left her in this moment. All the things she had planned to say left her mind as Piper looked up at her.
"Of course."
Annabeth sighed. She might not ever come back if this went badly, which was a shame because the coffee was really good. But she had felt something for Piper for a while now, and it found a way to eat her up inside. Piper looked at her expectantly.
"I really like you, like, like like you," Annabeth blurted, then took a very slow, very long sip of her coffee to settle her nerves down.
Then Piper did something unexpected. She sat up and kissed Annabeth's cheek. Annabeth blushed madly, but she was extremely relieved.
"Well that's a good thing because I like, like you too," she said mocking Annabeth's words teasingly. She smiled and put her head back on Annabeth's shoulder, who now wrapped her arm around Piper's waist. And they were happy.
They talked throughout most of the morning because Rose Café was always slow in the morning. And they sang along to Black Veil Brides. And they shared lots of hugs and cuddles and of course small kisses. Annabeth felt happy. Piper felt wonderful. And they were together.
