I walked over to get my luggage from the baggage carousel. I stood there waiting for my luggage to come around.
"Long flight huh?"
I turned to face a handsome, tired looking, well built boy. He had sparkling grey eyes and an extremely sharp jaw line. In other words, Perfection and incredibly hot. I didn't realise how long I was staring for until he spoke,
"Take a picture Princess, it'll last longer"
...and that was when he had to ruin it. Knowing that he was a plain jerk was a complete turn off.
"Whatever." I replied just when I spotted my pink suitcase coming my way. I went over to collect it, totally ignoring Mr Jerk's gaze. I lifted my bag and put it down on the ground. Walking over to the check-out I heard someone call out "Nice Ass" and knew it was Mr Jerk. As good looking as he was, I didn't want any playboy jerk distracting me in this state. This was a fresh start for me... of course daunting. I literally knew no one here except for my mums old friends daughter, Rebekah, who I was expected to stay with. She also left New York to educate herself here in California so I haven't seen her for a few years. All I know is that she lives alone in her apartment and apparently goes to the same school as I will be starting, California High School, so that should be okay I guess.
-------------------------
I was currently in the taxi on my way to Rebekka's apartment. It was really different here. Nothing like New York. Usually I would be hearing a lot of honking of vehicles and the areas would be really busy. But here in California I've realised that it is much more calm. I did a bit of research on California, after all I will be living here for the next few years, and all I found were that there are many mountains here such as San Gabriels, San Bernardino and Sierras. To be completely honest I don't even know where they are so I don't know the names of the mountains I'm passing. I guess I just have to get used to it.
"That'll be $30 Miss"
I paid the taxi driver and hopped out the taxi with my luggage. I looked at the view in front of me and checked the address once more on my phone.
3rd floor, room 63
I headed to the lift and once I reached the 3rd floor, looked for room 63.
...59, 60, 61, 62, 63
I knocked lightly onto the door and waited for Rebekka to open up. I wonder how she is now seeing how I haven't spoken to her in years. It was only a few moments later that the door was thrown open. But instead of it being Rebekka, a guy, about our age came storming out with rage. I stood there dumbstruck until I heard faint sobbing from inside the room. I decided to go in to check. I bought my suitcase in quietly and looked around. It was an affordable apartment, not too small, but obviously not a mansion. That's when I saw her.
She didn't look too different from when I saw her last except she did dye her hair a different shade of brown. She had evidently grown in height but I could still see the same Rebekka I saw years ago. Apart from the fact that right now her eyes were bloodshot, her hair was all over the place and the face was red, probably from anger or just the crying. I actually didn't know what to do. I was hardly in these type of situations and I don't even think she remembers me properly. If it was someone I was close to I would have immediately rushed to their side. Don't get me wrong, I would love to help anyone, but right now it was really awkward. So I did the thing I thought was most appropriate. I coughed.
She looked up in what seemed like confusion and then realisation. She quickly wiped her tears and walked up to me.
"Oh my so sorry. I didn't realise you came in. How have you been? Vanessa right?"
"Yeah, Vanessa. I've been fine thanks but shouldn't I be asking you that instead right now?" I asked indicating on the scene that just happened a few seconds ago.
"Oh no its nothing. Don't worry about it. How was your flight?" We spoke whilst getting in my luggage and settling down onto the living room couches. She told me a bit about how it is in California and avoided the topic of the raging guy. We ate and spoke a bit more until I decided to bring it up. One way she would need to talk about it.
"Want to talk about it?" She looked up at me and knew exactly what I was talking about.
"Not right now Vanessa. Lets get some sleep yeah.. and we have school tomorrow morning. Are you starting tomorrow or giving yourself a day gap?"
"I'll take a day gap." I looked around unsure of where to go. "Where do I sleep?"
"The room to your left. If you need anything just let me know. My bedroom is right there" she points to a door across the living room.
I nodded understanding. "Thanks a lot, for letting me stay here"
"Don't worry about it" she shook it off. "I'll see you tomorrow then. Goodnight Nessa"
I knew she was just trying to keep herself together now. But she was still thinking about what happened before. I hope she gets through it.
I walked over to my room and collapsed on my bed. I was exhausted. I lay there for a while and I don't even know when my eyes shut and I fell asleep.
