"Take your seats please." Said my new teacher, mrs. Allison. I didn't know where to sit; didn't know where to fit in. I searched until I looked over and saw a boy sitting all alone. "Sit by me." He offered. I hesitated, then sat down across from him. It was silent for the first few minutes as I twirled my fork around in what our school called "mashed potatoes". I looked into his eyes and focused on my ability to see the past. I tried to see his past. I noticed that he never had any friends and his mom walked out on him when he was three. I didn't say anything because I knew his feelings were probably fragile. "Hi." He finally spoke up trying to break the silence. "Um hi." I responded.
"So I'm Brian." He introduced himself.
"I'm Mara."
"Um..." Said Brian looking down.
"Look I'm trying not to make this awkward."
"I know."
"Ok."
"So yeah would I be making it worse if I said you were pretty?"
"Uh I gotta go." I said being flattered yet unsure of what to say next.
I got up and put away my tray. I went through all day wondering what would happen tomorrow.
