From that point on, I was being closely monitored. I knew that I should've kept my mouth shut from the beginning. Then, I wouldn't be in this situation and I definitely would not be treated like a useless lab rat that they'd throw away once they were done. Even though Ashley and Dr. Taylor were nice to me, I kept my distance from them because I knew that they would turn on me.
"Good morning Tessa, How did you sleep?"
I knew that she didn't really care because she had asked me this every morning since the 'accident'.
"Fine." I cursed underneath my breath.
"Okay, are you ready for today? Were going to run a few tests on you for the first time since what happened late last week. Hopefully they will come out positive and we'll know how you get your 'glowing' powers and such.
She knew that I would hate this process and she knew that I would refuse any treatment and just be difficult. Even then, she still put on a brave and joyful face for me. I had never seen her unhappy or anything less apart from the day when I told her about my specialty.
"Alright, firstly all you gotta do for us is to stay still while the process is running. You won't need to do much more. I know you're in pain from what you've already suffered but please, we need you to do this for us. You know, the more you co-operate, the faster this will-"
"Be. I get it. You all want me to co-operate so you can get what you want out of me. I know"
"Tessa. I know what you're going through. I see this everyday with patients and trust me; they're all just as stubborn as you." She chuckled lightly.
She made as much friendly conversation with me as possible trying to lighten my mood before Dr. Taylor starts with 'the process'. I knew that even though through her voice, she made it look like nothing but from her face I knew that it was going to be a long painful one.
Dr. Taylor walked in as soon as Ashley was finished with the pep talk and by then, Ashley had already set things up.
"Good morning Tessa. Now, as you know you signed a agreement saying that we could run tests on you and don't worry, It will be over as soon as possible but the only way for that to happen is for you to co-operate with us. It has to get worse before the better."
Dr. Taylor took out a large needle and intended to use it on me.
"Okay Tessa, I need you to stay still while I draw some blood so we can analyze it in the lab. it will only take a little while so just stay still for me alright?"
He knew the only answer he really wanted to hear was okay. Or let’s do it or something along the lines of that.
"Okay." I whispered quietly.
I winced as he came at me and injected me with a large needle.
It felt like more than a while and I could feel all the blood rushing in the veins. It burned. I couldn't bear the pain and let out a small whimper.
It was only a needle after all. What would happen if we went deeper in the process?
"Shh, it's okay Tessa. It's just a needle." Dr. Taylor tried to comfort me as much as he could. It was only over a needle.
Ashley walked in into my room as soon as Dr. Taylor took out the needle now filled with my blood. She was there to comfort my and to my surprise, it helped.
Dr. Taylor's pager went off in the middle of the process.
"Shit," he whispered quietly.
"Ashley, can you finish up for me?" without a clear response from Ashley, Dr. Taylor took off expecting Ashley would say yes.
