Once in a Lifetime

Chapter I

--Prolouge--

I feel myself change, I begin to wonder about things and why they happen. Sometimes, things happen for a reason and sometimes they happen because it's made to happen. Whether it's a gun shoot at a hospital or a cat fight at school. Things are meant to happen because well, they just do.

"Settle down everyone, please take a seat and settle down."

I searched for my phone - I had mistakenly misplaced it and now look where it's gotten.

"Tessa! There you are, I've been looking all over for you!"

"Oh, Hey Shannon. How was your holidays...Could you help me find my phone? I've misplaced it and now I can't seem to find it anywhere."

"Sure sure, maybe after the assembly okay? I think they're calling out what classes were going to be in this year. I'm sure It'll end up by the lost property sooner or later."

Another voice called out "Please take a seat everyone! I know it's good to see your friends again but you can see them some other time. For now, please pay attention as I am going to introduce your new teachers to you and your new class mates."

I wasn't paying attention to what class I was going to be in yet because i was still looking for my phone! it had to be here somewhere!

"Tessa Talestone and Shannon Crieve" the voice called out again.

"OMG! Tessa where in the same class this year! C'mon lets get going! I AM SOOO EXCITED OMG OMG OMG!!"

I felt uneasy as she jumped for joy. Still wondering where my phone was. We followed our teacher to the class that we were going to. I stared at the floor for a moment and I felt like something was following my every move. Was it me losing conciousness? or was it just me going mental. Either way, I walked past and caught up with Shannon.

"Shannon, is there something different about me? I feel different for sure."

"Nothing different about your clumsy self. Hehe... You sure look a bit tired though. did you get enough sleep yesterday night? maybe you should sleep earlier."

I didn't mean that when I asked her. I meant it personality wise. Some how I felt different and no matter what she says, I know it for sure.

I felt uneasy again.

I started losing my balance.

"Tessa! Are you alright?! your really pale in the face! Miss! Miss! Help me!"

I heard a faint voice yelling at me. Telling me to faint so i could get out of this nightmare.

"Yeah! exactly, that's what happened miss! My best friend Tessa just started going green, then pale, and then she just fainted. Should I call the ambulance?"

"Dial 111 and call the ambulance, I think it must be the flu or some virus going around." the teacher yelled nervously.

I closed my eyes and remained calm for now.

When I woke up, I saw a bright light, a beige yellow light. It felt warm inside me and I saw my body glow yellow too. But of course, that was just me going crazy. Something was definately different about me this time. I felt much stronger than before, I felt like I had gained something. Something special. Something unique and whatever it was, it felt strong.

"Now Tessa, this is Dr. Taylor, He did a check up on you just a minute ago to see if you were alright. I'm Ashley, your nurse for the time being."

"Dr. Taylor, why is there a needle in my arm? and why is it wrapped up like some medical treatment of sort? and why am I in hospital clothes? is there somemthing wrong with me?"

"Calm Down Tessa, No need to worry about anything. You're fine. We found no causes for your fainting but we did find out that you have a slight tumor growing in your brain and possible heart failure. We are treating it very delicately and it is nothing to worry about as it is only about the size of a 10c coin. Possibly smaller! You'll have to stay in the hospital for a while just until we can get it under control."

"But, B-But"

"No but's Tessa. Now if you need anything, Ashley is here for you and I will be just down the hall. Just shout if you need anything."

I felt so useless! I've abandoned my best friend and now she's all alone at her new high school. That's just great. I'm so stupid! why did I have to get a stupid brain tumor?

"Okay Tessa, Let's get to know each other a little bit better. You may have to stay here for a while. Lets see, Whats your favourite food? I could bring some to you right now if you'd like."

"I like anything really.. I don't have a favourite food but I would like some juice right now. Could you get me some please?"

"Sure, I'll get it right away"

She smiled and left my room.

Suddenly I felt my heart pounding faster and faster. I saw on the monitor, my heart rate was building up fast. I saw a yellow light again but this time it was really bright. My body glowed and I knew for a fact it wasn't crazy me this time, I really glowed! I felt a strong pulse and everything was working twice as hard as normal. Something was happening to me and yet no one knows what. and then all of a sudden, it all disappears.

Ashley came back  with my food minutes after I finished glowing. When she came back, it looked as if she was running a marathon of some sort.

"Are you alright Tessa?"

"Why? Nothing happened. You left a couple of minutes ago and came back now. Are you okay, Ashley?"

"I thought I saw a power shortage from this side of the hospital. It must be my head messing with me - obviously. At least it wasn't real."

She must have been day dreaming of sort, or maybe it was just her mind letting go of reality whilst she was waiting in line. Dr.Taylor came back in my room with a concerned look on his face. Both he and Ashley were starring at me like I was some freak.

"Ashley, was Tessa this pale a few minutes ago? she looks like she's going to pass out again."

"No Dr.Taylor, Tessa was fine a moment ago."

Everything faded to black as a I slowly closed my eyes. Somehow I could still here Ashley and Dr.Taylor.

"Heart rate's slowing down. Were going to lose her very soon. Continue the CPR procedure while we push her into the OR."

"Yes Dr. Taylor"

I didn't quite understand the rest of it as it started to go fuzzy and I couldn't hear proper english words anymore. A couple of hours later, I woke up and saw familiar faces in front of me. It would've been end of school by now because standing in front of me was Shannon!

"Hey Shannon, It's good to see you"

"Tessa! How are you feeling? You missed out on so much today, we had tours around the school and you wouldn't believe how big the school is, its huge! Oh wow, you look really sore, when are you going to be able to come out of the hospital and join me at our awesome new school?"

"The doctor said that I'd be in this place for about just over 2 months. I'm really sorry"

"Oh, um,that's okay I guess, I mean like. I can always make new friends. Anyways, It's getting kinda late now, I should get going. I'll come visit you whenever I can okay?"

"Okay Shannon, thanks alot. Your really are a great friend"
