It's been about two weeks since Edd's encounter with Ed and Eddy. Since then no one has bothered him, neither of the two scam artists, or the jock that also harassed Double D.

Double D walked on the sidewalk to school, gripping his backpack straps tightly. He walked carefully, keeping his gaze up and staying alert as he walked. His black eye had healed since the encounter and he had neatly cleaned the clothes that had been soaked and dirty. Sadly for him, he had strayed from the other cul-de-sac kids, as well as his two former best friends. He was alone.

Double D pushed open the big doors to the school, carefully stepping inside and making his way down the small hallway. He still had about fifteen minutes until class started, which gave him enough time to get to his locker and get to class early. Edd stopped at his locker, narrowing his eyes as he entered the combination. Before he could get his locker open, a strong hand turned him, and slammed him against the tall row of lockers. Double D looked up at his neighbor, and bully, fear glistening in his eyes.
"Why h-hello Kevin.." Edd stuttered out, "M-May I be of some.. A-Assistance?" Double D asked shakily, biting his lip. He wasn't in the mood to get beat up or teased again, he wouldn't be able to handle it, and he was stressed enough as it is. Everyone thought of Edd as perfect, the kid who got good grades, who had the perfect life. But between bullying, his parents not being home, and having no friends, things were starting to get to Edd. Kevin snickered softly.
"You're cute, dork. Now take a guess" Kevin snorted, a grin plastered to his face. Edd swallowed nervously, refusing to speak to his bully.
"What'e the matter, cat got your tongue?" Kevin teased, pressing Double D's shoulder into the lockers. Double D winced, shutting his eyes tightly and biting his tongue.
"Come find me when you want to talk" Kevin sneered, throwing Double D to the ground, his books scattering from his backpack, sending notes and papers scattered across the ground as he hit the ground with a soft thud. Edd groaned softly, looking up at Kevin, hurt, fear, and despair mixed in his eyes. Kevin scoffed, kicking a few of his papers across the floor, and walked off down the hall. Edd let out a sigh of defeat as he got up, and started to clean up his mess of papers in silence.

The bell rung after school ended, and the first one out the doors was Edd, followed by a crowd of talkitive teenagers. Edd walked home in silence, staring at the ground as the cul-de-sac kids walked on the other side of the street, talking and laughing. Double D sighed softly, unlocking the door to his house and shutting it gently, locking it again. He set his backpack down in the kitchen and grabbed the sticky note that his parents had left him.
Dear Edd,
We'll be away for the next week again, you can handle things on your own. There's plenty of food for you, and remember to clean your room daily. Take care,
Mother and Father
Edd sighed, crumpling the sticky note in his hands and allowing it to fall onto the cold and unforgiving kitchen floor. He barely saw his parents when he was younger, when he was involved in Ed and Eddy's ridiculous scams, but now it seemed as if every week a new sticky note waited for him, but kept repeating the same, old message that Edd had learned to hate. He made his way to his room to begin homework, but he couldn't focus. Not when he feared going to school everyday, something he used to enjoy, when he fears he'll have no one, not even his parents. He simply couldn't do it. Tears welled in Edd's eyes as he looked around his room, and then around the large, empty house he used to adore so much. He choked on a few small sobs and let the tears in his eyes run gently down his cheeks as he slowly made his way into the bathroom. He shut the door and locked it, although there was never a need to anymore, and started at himself in the mirror as he quietly sobbed. He wondered what had become of himself, where he'd gone wrong and what he'd done to deserve to be treated the way that he did. None of it made sense to Double D, he didn't understand. His thoughts only made him cry louder, and he sat down with his back pressed against the bathroom door and hugged his knees close to him. Where had he gone wrong?
