"Andrea, you look like you're looking at a ghost. What's wrong?" Mom asked me worriedly.
"I think I am." I felt like I was in a daze, like I could collapse at any second.
Maybe I'm still dreaming. If I pinch myself, close my eyes, and open them again, I will wake up in my bedroom.
When I opened my eyes though, I was still here.
David was still here.
"Andrea, what's wrong?" David said, examining my face carefully. "Did you have those nightmares again? You look like you just cried." He knows me so well.
"You're real." I said, feeling all the feelings I could possibly feel. I cupped my hand and felt his face. He felt so real and yet, I still cannot believe it.
We were just looking at each other's eyes like nothing else matters.
It was like as if time stood still. Just for us to have that moment.
And then, reality strikes back.
"Wait, mom. So you know him?" I asked, pointing at David.
"Do you have a fever or something? You're asking ridiculous questions. Of course, I know him. He's been going here every morning to give you a ride ever since you started dating him. And you've been dating him for little over a month!" Mom replied.
"But we were just talking last night. About me not having a boyfriend. Don't you remember? Camille was there, too!" Shooting a glance at Camille, I asked her, "You don't remember... Do you?"
She looked at me with a sad expression and shook her head. And, I just had to take a seat. Everything is so surreal.
It's like they completely forgot about everything. Like their memories were replaced.
As soon as I realized this, memories of my old dreams went swimming in my brain. My dreams became my reality. And my reality became my dream. Old memories blurred.
"Yeah. I think I'm gonna need a day off."
"Do you need me to stay here? I can get a vacation leave." David told me, still very worried.
"No, you don't need to do that. You can come after work, okay? I'll be here." I assured him.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure. I just need to take a long nap, then I'll be good."
Then, he gave me a long kiss on the forehead and headed off to work.
~~~~~
I felt something, or more like someone shake me out of my dreamless sleep. I wanted to tell him, 'No! Don't do that! I'm sleeping! Can't you see I'm sleeping? I want to rest. Please?!"
But, nooo. You see, this person's very stubborn and doesn't want to let me sleep in peace.
"Come on, Hon! Don't you want to come out and play?"
"Okay, I'm up. I'm up." I told him, still very groggy. "What time is it?"
"Five-thirty. And that's why you have to get up. You've been in bed for way too long. Effect? You won't be able to sleep at night and you're gonna keep me up with all your texts again."
"So you're saying, you don't like me texting you..."
"I didn't mean it that way!" He hurriedly told me.
"No, I think that's what you meant... I'm so disappointed in you." I said jokingly. Of course I knew he didn't mean it that way. He's too kind for that.
"I'm sorry! What can I do so you'd forgive me?"
"Hmm. You can give me a kiss."
And without another word, he kissed me on the cheek.
Ha! You expected something else, didn't you?
Yeah, me too.
As if he read my mind, he said, "I know you want to save it for our wedding."
"Our wedding?"
"Yes, well, who else would you want to marry?"
"No one else."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
So we ended up going to Quezon City Circle to take a stroll.
"Andrea?" I heard a voice call out from behind me. David and I looked back and saw Finn Sanchez, my fat high school classmate who doesn't look so fat anymore.
"Finn? Is that you? Did you work out or something?"
"Yeah. Something like that."
"Wow. All the pounds that got off. Impressive! I guess I still have a chance to get thinner then."
"Hahaha. No... You don't need to work out. You're too thin already."
"You think so?"
"Well, what have you been doing? Still into photography?"
"Yeah! How'd you know that?"
"You took a lot of pictures before. I always thought you'd take that route."
"Well, thanks. How about you? What do you do?"
"I'm a lawyer."
"Oh? Well, what are you doing here in Circle? Don't you have any people going to you for help?"
"Yeah. Too many people."
"Hahahaha... Oh, gee. How rude of me. This is my boyfriend, David." Oh, David must have felt so left out. "David, this is my old classmate, Finn."
"Nice meeting you." Finn said, holding out his hand for David to shake. David was a bit reluctant so I had to give a small nudge. I can't explain his face either. Like there is something completely wrong with this situation even if there's none. I cannot understand men sometimes.
"Well, I have to get going. Kind of busy... It's nice seeing you."
"Nice seeing you too." And he was off.
When Finn was out of earshot, "Okay, David, explain. What was all that about?"
"What?"
"Why didn't you want to shake his hand? I know, I over-read some things but the guy was being nice!"
"I don't know."
"What do you mean, 'I don't know'? You must know. You-" Then, it hit me. "Wait a second. David? Are you jealous?"
"No." He denied quickly.
"Yes. Yes, you are."
"No, I'm not."
"Yes! Oh my gosh. I never thought David Sevilla could be jealous. I feel so blessed! David Sevilla loves me so much, he was jealous of a classmate I haven't seen in more that ten years! I am so happy!"
"Andrea, I am not jealous."
"Yeah, just keep denying it, honey."
