Chains were the first thing I heard before my body was lifted upwards like a roller coaster followed by a screaming. I jolted onto my side.
When I had opened my eyes, the darkness around me grew darker. A burning sensation had begun to creep up my throat. Water had found it's way out of my body, out of my mouth and fell through the floor.
When was I in water? I realized my hair was soaked with water.
I felt and explored the rising room around me, familiarizing my mind with the objects around me, but nothing seemed familiar. I felt alone, and blind.
The only thing coming back to me was my name. It began with an N.
Nick? Noah? Neal? I couldn't remember.I slapped my hands on a thin metal wall that held my body inside as the box. A cage. It's rising higher and faster. Faster. It didn't seem to ever stop. I tried to steady myself from falling over as the lift had woken me up completely.
Anything I could snatch a memory of floated around in my mind. But my thoughts didn't feel right. It all felt so wrong. They felt dim and fading quickly. It felt like someone had broken into my mind, stole every single memory I held dearest to me, and then filling fake ones in my mind like trash. And once that someone had broken into my thoughts, they must have stolen my name too, because I don't feel like N was the first initial of my real name.
They must have stolen everything else. Everything. All that made me...me.I slid my body down the rough wall and hugged my knees against my chest, feeling tears leaking out of my eyes that I tried to squeeze shut as I tried picturing my mama, papa, if I had any siblings at all, a best friend, a house pet?
Empty faces stared back. More like ghosts that haunted me in my dreams. The last thing I could do was scream. Cry. I lifted my chin to the ceiling as the box slowed down and only a dark red light blinked like a silent alarm clock.
I waited. I watched. I cried. I screamed. Until a blinding white light fell into the box. Until I could get my vision back, a young man's voice spoke out. Only one.
"Hello?" His voice was deep. Shaking. "Who are you? What's your name? Why do you have all those boxes with you? Are they bombs? Who are you?" He wouldn't stop asking me these questions that I had no clue to what any of the answers were.As my eyes adjusted I saw only one figure. He was big, tall, dark skinned, and alone. No one else came. Who was he and what did HE want? So, trying to remember how to talk, I tried to talk back, "wa-a-wa...What's YOUR n-ame?"
"Let's just start from the beginning. Alright Shank? The name's Alby. My name is Alby...I don't know exactly what my last name is, but I assume you have a name also?"
I tried my hardest to remember. I knocked my head against my knees and waited for the answer to come and when it did I immediately told him before I could forget anything else.
"Mm-My n-n-name is...Newt. Newt! I'm Newt."
"Well Newt, welcome to the Glade."
