Ariel's P.O.V.
"Oh god!" I muttered, only loud enough for Scarlet and Emmaline to hear. "This is the one thing I hate about winter..." I shoved my gloved hands deep into my shallow coat pockets and squeezed my limbs together hoping that that would have some affect in keeping me warm.
"Well, it's better than a scolding hot summer! There are bees everywhere!" Emma replied, scrunching her nose up in distaste while shaking her head, making wisps of her long dark brown hair fly everywhere. Scarlet let out a loud chortle, causing a lot of heads to turn towards her, flashing her funny looks. She threw her hand over her lips, blushing and embarrassed, and receded her laugh to a low giggle.
"But I'm still cold!" I whined, throwing my head back and groaning loudly.
"And it's still winter, Mother Nature's not gonna just change the weather just because you didn't want it to change," Eleanor said, appearing out of nowhere.
"I never asked her, did I?" I muttered under my breath, my facial features scrunching into a scowl. I stopped myself, and smiled brightly at her, taking a split second to invent a reply that would not strike her as bitchy. "What if I say 'please?'" I giggled to myself, Scarlet and Emmaline joining me. The three of us, concluding our feigned laughter, immediately walked away from El just as the shrill ring of the bell echoed from the school.
I sighed gratefully and ran for the entrance, where many people were mercilessly crowding around to enter, obviously, bearing the same thoughts as mine about winter. I protruded my lower lip, forming a pout, as I stood behind them, waiting for them to all file in so, I could have my taste of warmth. Behind me, Callan and his friends were laughing over a joke one of them made that goes something along the lines of a vagina and a penis. I whipped around, concluding to myself that talking to them would be the only way to help forget about the ice cold weather that was encasing me. "Hey!" I exclaimed, grinning at them widely. The five of them all stopped and waved weakly at me. Presumably, they are not accustomed to people walking up to them indiscriminately and saying 'hi.' Though, I'm surprised Callan would show any form of surprisal, we have been close friends for a long time. "God, it's cold!" I pretended to shiver to enhance my point.
Callan shrugged. "I guess," he answered. "I'm not cold."
"Well... You're Callan! You're weird!" I prodded him gently and chuckled. The other guys didn't seem to find amusement with my jest. I looked over at Callan, who was grinning at me like he wanted to laugh but would probably look like a loser in front of his friends. "Well," I said, rocking forward onto my toes then, backwards onto my heels. "See ya!" I walked past them to where Scarlet and Emmaline were standing.
"Oh god!" I mentioned, once I neared them. "That was awkward!"
"Well, what do you expect? They're guys!" Scarlet responded.
"Yeah, but Callan was being weird!"
"Callan always acts differently when his guy friends are around. Especially, when Jesse's there."
"Do you think he's got a little crush on Jesse?" Emmaline and I asked at the same time, jokingly. The three of us exchanged a glance and burst into laughter as the crowd around the entrance, mercifully, thinned.
