Chapter 5

When Harry dropped me off at my house, it was getting dark. We had decided to go sit in the park for awhile after the funeral, just talking. Of course Paul, their body guard had to be there, just in case something happened, but he kept his distance which I was grateful of. I walked up the stairs to my bedroom, and changed into my pajamas. The house was eerily silent. I got up from my window seat, and walked down the hall to Callum’s room. He was already asleep, lying still in his clothes, on his bed. Moving on, I checked Maddy’s room. She too had finally drifted off to sleep. I could still see the tear tracks on her face, reflected in the moonlight shining through the window. I paused outside Mom and Dad’s door, and heard Mom in tears, and Dad’s low voice speaking to her. Turning around, I walked back down the hall to my room and shut the door. I resumed my position on the window seat, just staring out onto the road, knowing sleep wouldn’t come soon. My phone began to ring to the song Magic by One Direction, and I lunged across the room to grab it so it wouldn’t wake anyone up.

“Hello?” I answered softly.

“Selena.”

“Hey Haz.”

“Can you sleep?” he asked quietly.

“No, not at all.” I whispered.

“Can I come get you?”

“I will leave Mom and Dad a note.”

“Kay, I will be right there Sel.” With that, Harry hung up. I grabbed everything I might need for the night, and walked out on to the driveway, waiting for Harry. I was greeted by a black car coming around the corner. It pulled up outside my house, and Harry got out of the passenger side. I looked to the driver’s side and waved.

“Hey Louis.”

“Hi Selena, how are you doing?” he asked quietly.

“I’m surprisingly okay. I don’t know about the rest of my family, I haven’t seen any of them emerge from their rooms since the funeral.” I said in a low voice.

Louis nodded, and Harry took hold of my waist, guiding me to the back seat of the car. I opened it to find Niall sitting there, with a bag from McDonalds.

“Niall. Really? Do you ever stop eating?” I asked wearily.

“Nope!” He said grinning. I sighed and smirked. Niall got out of the back seat and switched places with Harry, so Harry could sit in the back with me.

“Thanks Nialler,” Harry said.

He just smiled and looked at the two of us before winking. I blushed.

“Let’s get back to the hotel,” Harry leaned in and whispered in my ear, sending shivers down my spine. I nodded, and climbed in the backseat, Harry right behind me. I glanced at the clock on the dashboard of the car, straining to see the time.

“Hey Lou? What time is it?” I asked.

“9:35pm, why?” He asked.

I lowered my gaze, staring at my hands in my lap.

“In five minutes, it will have been exactly a week.” That was all I had to say and the car went dead silent. Even Niall stopped chewing on his fries. I felt Harry’s arm wrap around me again, and pull me in so I was leaning against his shoulder. We stayed silent for the rest of the ride back to the hotel. When we arrived, Louis and Niall climbed out ahead of Harry and me. I stood leaning against the side of the car, looking up to the stars. Harry stood beside me, and I could tell he was watching me curiously.

“Tyler and I used to climb out on to the roof through my bedroom window every once and awhile when we were having bad days. We would stare at the stars, and just looking at them seemed to calm us. We never talked; just the two of us would lie on our backs looking at the sky. After about half an hour, we went back inside, and sometimes when he was really little, he would crawl into my bed, and start chatting away about some new idea or invention he had come up with. When he was diagnosed, the conversations changed, and he would always ask me if he was going to die. I never wanted to say it, but I think he always knew deep down.” I took a deep unsteady breath, and looked up to meet Harry’s eyes. “I just wish I could go back. Go back to the beginning again, and start all over. That would be the only thing I would change about my life. I would find a way to make my baby brother live. The rest of my life has been great. You know, all the vacations, the friends, my awesome family…” I took a deep breath, “And you. Harry, you have changed my life in so many ways. I just don’t know what I would be doing right now if you hadn’t come into my life. I’d probably be sitting in my room, lost and confused in my own thoughts. Honestly I don’t even know- mphhh!” The rest of my sentence was cut off, due to the fact that I found Harry’s lips attached to mine. It was a second before I realized what was happening, and then my eyes drifted shut and I began to kiss him back. It was a wonderful feeling, I felt like I was flying. His lips tasted sweet, almost like cotton candy. I felt him smiling as he pulled away slightly.
