Rachel sat there for a while before she opened her eyes. She looked around. She could see bodies strewn throughout the street. A car burnt out in the neighbours front yard. But she didn't see any people or any flesh eaters. She got to her feet for a better view. Looking around she could see far off fires and not much else. Still no people. No moving cars. But no indication of rescue ether.
She sat back down. There's no one around, she thought. She slipped back inside the hole, hopping down onto the table then the chair and back to the floor. At least I can get out this way if I have to, I'll look for a way down off the roof tomorrow, she reflected. She moved the table and chair back to its original place and sat down. I guess I'll go and try to get the rest of the food and water in the garage, she said to herself.
Once again she punched in the code but the door didn't open. "What the..." , she said out loud. Then she remembered there was no power left on the batteries . Once again she pulled the table and chair ver to the hole. She'll have have to look for a way down off the roof. On the roof she looks around for a way down. She saw the gutter and figured it was the easiest way down.
Rachel shimmied down the gutter and got to the ground with ease. Not sure how I'll get back up though, she thought to herself. She walked slowly to the front of the house , very carefully looking and listening. Making her way up the stairs to the front door she turned over the plant and grabbed the front door key. She unlocked the door , stepped inside and relocated the door. She then slipped the key into her pocket.
Making her way to the garage she grabbed two more back packs. She could not take me at a time back up but she'll pack both so her next trip would be shorter. She equally placed water and food into each back pack picking them up every now and then to check for weight. Every now and the. She would stop and listen. Luckily there was no sounds so she kept pacing. Once both bags where full she put one on her back and carried the other one. She put one back pack by the front door and stepped outside. She locked the door then listened again. She couldn't hear anything but she could smell something. An overwhelming stink of death. I didn't smell that earlier, she pondered.
She moved quickly to the back of the house and tripped up over a rock. Blood gushed from the fresh wound on her knee. "Shit", she said. She picked herself back up and went around to the back of the house. She looked up to the top of the house and the gutter. Not to sure what to do she hesitated. She didn't hear him coming but she felt his hand on her shoulder and the smell, oh the smell.
