Cicera's POV
My dad hugged me tight, not wanting to let go, but Sargent Taylor taps him on the shoulder, signaling it is time to go. He nods and quickly takes my face in his hands.
"Cicera, I love you. So much. You will be okay. Don't cry baby. I will see you soon. I love you." he said quickly as Taylor honked the horn. I nodded, so upset that I couldn't even talk.
"I love you too." I choke out, kissing his cheek shakily.
Another loud honk signaled that it was time. My dad kissed the top of my head before turning and jogging to the army truck. I watched him climb in and heard the engine start. As the car backed out of the driveway, I waved as hard as I could. Running after the car, I called"I love you!" over and over again. He called back, "I love you Cicera! I will see you in 18 months, I promise!" before the car turned the corner and he was gone.
I stopped running and stared at the intersection in which my dad had just been. Tears flew down my face as I stood there, staring at an empty street as a street lamp flickered behind me, casting a strange glow on the dead of night.
Sitting on the curb, I cried, trying to get a grip on myself. He will be back, Cicera. He promised he would. He will. He wouldn't just leave you, right? Well he just did. No he didn't! He had too. He could have asked to stay, but he didn't. And he will be back. No he won't. You know he could die so easily. Just one shot of a gun... Stop it! He will be back!
Shaking my head of my thoughts and of Cecelia, I began walking back home. Checking my phone, I saw it was 3:09 am. They will be here in a few hours anyways.
If you are wondering who Cecelia is, well she is the voice in my head. I have a disability that keeps me from thinking straight sometimes. My dad won't tell me the name of it or let me research it, but I know that I have trouble thinking. Anyways, Cecelia is basically the other side of me. She is always negative and has never had a positive thing to say. She is always putting me down and honestly, I hate it. I don't know how to get rid of her, but she better leave at some point.
Walking back inside, I try to wipe my tears away, but the just keep coming. Giving up on them, I go upstairs to my room and flop on my bed, crying. I grab my pillow and hold it tight, basically crushing it into my body, trying to block out the pain. I don't know how long I cried, but I lay there for what seemed like forever.
After a while, my eyes had run out of tears and, glancing at the clock, I jumped, seeing it was 7:30. Shoot! There gonna be here in half an hour! Jumping up, I ran like a mad man around the house, picking everything touching the floor and throwing it where ever I could: the closet, cupboard, under the couch, anywhere!
Glancing around, satisfied, I dashed back upstairs and got dressed. I tried my best to look presentable since these were the people that I would be seeing for the next year and a half. At least. He might be gone longer. He might never come back. Ever. Ugh! Throwing my hair up in a messy bun, I look myself over before I heard the doorbell ring (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=178051361).
Wiping my face, making sure there was no trace of tears, I go downstairs and open the front door to reveal seven people. One of them, a blonde girl, came and gave me a tight hug.
"Hi! You must be Cicera!" she said cheerfully. I smiled slightly.
"Yeah, I am. Nice to meet you!" I reply, hugging her back.
"I'm Rydel," she replied, pulling away, a huge smile on her face. I turned to see six other people standing in the doorway: five boys and a woman.
"It is so mice to finally meet you," said the woman, giving me a quick hug. "I'm Mrs. Lynch, but you can call me Stormie." I giggle.
'"Nice to meet you Stormie," I say. I was then introduced by Stormie to everyone else. I got hugs and handshakes from Ross, Riker, Ryland, Ellington and Rocky. Ellington told me to call him Ell when I accidentally called him by his full name. Laughing I agreed to. He also gave me a huge hug which I was not expecting. Seems like he is quite the happy character. All of the other boys just shook my hand, but I could tell that they were a fun group. Dad had picked great people to be my babysitters.
Long story short, my dad, being the protective, single father, decided that, while he was gone, I needed a babysitter. He had told me he had hired some of his close friends to look after me while he was gone. One of them would stay at the house with me and the rest would drop over from time to time, to check on us. He said I would always be safe if I was with these people. Now I know why. It is like I have five older brothers and a sister!
"I can't wait to get to know you!" said Rydel, grinning widely. I laughed.
"Me either!" I say, smiling. "Come in!" we were all still standing in the doorway, so everyone came in. I hoped upon hoped that nobody would open any of the closets or get too curious about the house.
"So!" said, Stormie, clapping her hands together. "Down to business. We need to decide who is staying with Cicera for the next six months before we switch off." Everyone looked around, not sure if they were supposed to volunteer or what.
"We need to figure out a way to solve this," said Stormie. "Any ideas?" Everyone began thinking before I saw Ross get a mischievous face.
"Why don't we had a sort of competition? Whoever wins gets to watch over her because they showed they were the most capable," he suggested. I was actually quite surprised. That is a really good idea. We all agreed that that was a great idea.
"Wanna gather stuff for the competition?" I asked. "You can just look around the house and ran whatever you find. Warning though. Nothing is organized and I may have thrown stuff into closets and stuff before you came 'cause I was not ready." They laughed and everyone agreed to go hunting for supplies.
Twenty minutes later, I tromped into the family room and dropped everything in my arms on the floor. Rydel and Ross came, adding their stuff to the pile. Pretty soon, we had a mountain of stuff on the floor. A shower pole, broom, buckets, blankets, a chicken. Don't ask.
"Well, what now?" Everyone was silent until Rocky piped up.
"I got it!"
