" Mom, no, " I argued.
"Haha, baby it's fine," Arron said while laughing his face off.
" No, it's definitely not fine!" I shrieked. I turned my face to my mom. "Mom, wake up!"
My mom was beautiful, but seeing her on the floor covered in blood wasn't her best look.
"How could you do this?!" I screamed at Arron, tears streaming down my cheeks.
"Oh, don't worry. You're next," Arron laughed at me.
I stayed with my mother all night. I couldn't see her like that, so I cleaned her up and laid her down in my bed.
I love you, Mom. I always will.

I felt the tight ribbon around my back. Whenever I tried to move, I found I was all hot and sweaty.
"Hey, it's okay," I heard a female voice whisper.
As I open my eyes, I find a face I'm sure I've seen before. Caitlyn. My best friend. Ever since what happened, she has always been there for me. She was the first to make me laugh. She was the best.
As I sat up and realized that I just had a dream. The reality of it haunted me for two years.
I thanked Caitlyn before she left the room for me to get ready. I hopped into the shower and let the steaming hot water melt my back. I was lucky to get a decent shower today; usually six-year-old Josh would burst in while I was still in there.
"Breakfast, " I heard Polly yell out to all of us. She was the person who looked after us, but she didn't do a very good job. She just sat on her butt all day eating, she wasn't very good looking; she was pretty fat, and she had very short gray hair that was falling out. She hated me.
"Ruby, hurry up and get down here," she called up to me.
Without replying, I just took my time and walked down the stairs to the kitchen.
"Guys, in three hours we have scheduled adoption interviews, O.K?" Polly announced. Her voice was just above a mumble, so everyone had to be quiet to hear it.
When I first came to the adoption home -when there were adoption interviews- I had always dreamed that one day a kind family would adopt me and I would have a normal life like other kids.
I'm fourteen now. I've been here since I was twelve, and most all of my friends I've made here have been adopted. It would scare me if Caitlyn left. Then I would have nobody.
-3 HOURS LATER-
Ding Dong. Ding Dong. Ding Dong. The doorbell was impatient.
I heard all the foot steps entering the building. There were a lot of people here today.
"Kids!" Polly yelled out into the house.
Caitlyn and I walked down the stairs and just before we got to the bottom I stopped Caitlyn and hug her- our usual routine. We continued to walk and when we got to the bottom there were lots of people today.
We walked to the circle of chairs and sat, watching the little girls and boys running around, while parents talked to them and asked them questions. Before I knew it most of them were gone.
"Hello, girls," a smiling young woman addressed us.
"Hey," Caitlyn and I replied.
"What're your names?" she asked us.
"Mine's Caitlyn. She's Ruby," Caitlyn said, pointing at me.
"My name is Katy. Nice to meet both of you. How old are you?"
"We're both fourteen years old," we said at the same time.
"Okay, so do you girls want to-" before she could finish her phone rang in her pocket.
After finally hanging up, she turned to Caitlyn. "Young Miss, do you want to be my daughter?"
At first I was a bit shocked that she could just pick one of us. We were going to be separated. Probably forever.
I grabbed Caitlyn's wrist. "No, please don't go," I pleaded. Tears built up under my eyelids.
"Rose, she's my daughter now, O.K?" Katy smirked at me.
"Whatever," I screamed before running upstairs to my room.
I yelled into my pillow to let out my pain and despair.
Only seconds later did Polly burst into my room with anger and revenge written across her face. She grabbed my ear and through me out of the room.
"Get. Down. Stairs. Now," she hissed at me.
"Fine," I agreed. I was shoved down the stairs.
I didn't want to be rejected again so I sat at the bottom step to avoid the drama.
Before I could begin sorting my thoughts, five young men burst through the door.
There was a blondie that plugged his nose and said: "Smells like rotten food. I think I'm gonna die."
"So what are we doing here, Liam?" a tall brown-haired man asked.
One with amazing green eyes caught me sitting there and walked towards me.
Crap. Crap, crap, crap.
"Hey there," he said seductively before taking a seat beside me.
Was I going to be adopted?
