Chapter 2

I sit there, expressionless, as if he wasn't even there.

"Hey, what's your name?" He asked.

I looked at him and then at his friends just to see that they were wandering around the room. The guy next to me scooted closer.

"Um, are you okay?" He asked.

"I'm... Ruby..." I mumbled.

"Nice name! I'm Harry," he smiled at me. "How old might you be, Miss Ruby?"

"Fourteen," I spoke up.

This guy seemed nice, but I didn't feel very trusting towards him.

"That's cool," he said. Then the blondie ran over and grabbed him.

I sat there thinking, not really taking notice of the people around me. As I looked around, I saw little Josh sitting alone. And then I thought, What in the world am I doing?! Do I really want to leave this place so badly?! Leave poor Josh?!

Time slipped by so quickly and nothing happened, so I decided to go up to my room and miss dinner. I wasn't hungry anyway.

Sleep wasn't a problem.

I dreamt about what life would be like when I turn 17 and when I can leave here and live my own life, what I will be.

I woke up not knowing what the time was, so I just walked down the stairs. When I reached the bottom everyone was waiting there for me. The guys from before, I mean.

"Hey, Ruby," I heard a familiar voice coo.

I looked around trying to find where it was coming from when I felt a slight tap on my shoulder. Harry.

"H-hiiii," I squeezed out.

"Come on," he said pointing and pushing me down the stairs to where everyone else was.

He lead me down and I followed him, still not sure where he was going with this; this kind of thing was new to me.

"Guys, we're adopting her."

I couldn't understand his words. I ran up to my room hoping maybe I could turn invisible or something.

"Ruby, get to my office right now!!" I heard Polly yell out at me.

I slowly turned around to walk to where her office was. You only went to her office when you got adopted.
