Chapter 4
There's no denying that I'm scared, but I'd just rather not show it. It's not like I don't want a family it's just, I'm worried that what happened last time might happen again.
"Why does mummy have to pack?" Josh asks Niall.
"Because, she's coming home with me." Niall replied.
"But, that means your adopting her...right?" The glint in his eyes from a few minutes ago vanished as the situation unfolded.
"Uh...well...kinda...yeah." Niall stutters, rubbing the back of his neck, looking uncomfortable with the situation.
"But, mommy!" Josh turns to me accusingly, with fresh tears forming in his eyes.
"I ..." Words failed me as I see the anguish seize his features.
"You can't leave me, that's not what mommies do! You promised! "Josh yells in between sobs.
"It's ok Ruby -" Niall began but was cut off when Harry walked in.
"Are you all set?" Harry says with a slight smile.
"Nope," I say trying to hold back the tears that were about to fall.
"I don't mean to be rude, love but we have to leave. It's almost six." Harry says, the smile never leaving his face.
"I understand, but I'm not quite-"
"RUBY GET DOWN HERE, NOW!" I cast my eyes to the ceiling and blinked, trying to get rid of the tears. A small hand grasped mine and I looked down at Josh to give him a small smile.
I ignored the curious gazes from Niall and Harry as I made my way out of the room with Josh at my side. We met Polly at the end of the staircase and she scowled disapprovingly at us. As I opened my mouth to ask what she wanted, she grabbed Josh's thin arm and dragged him to the room beside the stairs. I just stood there and watched.
A feeling of numbness passed over me. I saw everything; how poor defenseless Josh was dragged towards the room, crying, and screaming at me to do something. I couldn't move, I let this happen to him.
The screams must've alerted Niall and Harry because soon they joined me at the bottom of the stairs with their friends.
"Hey, Ruby." One of them says, but I'm too shocked to answer back. I was still staring at the door where Polly and Josh disappeared.
The boy with a streak of blond hair (I think his friends called him Zayn) shook my shoulder and I snapped out of it. I noticed that the others were getting inside a rather long black car.
"Hey are you coming?" Zayn asks
"No." I say with a deadpan expression.
He arched an eyebrow in a challenging matter before he grabbed my waist, hoisted me up, threw me over his shoulder, and carried me to the car.
All these emotions are running wild inside me at once; I have to remain with the impassive mask while they decided which one was overwhelming enough to explode.
I'm scared, worried, curious, and shy. I scream inside my head because I'm too afraid to do so out loud. I don't have the will to fight him because I'm scared that he's going to hurt me worst, and I've been hurt before.
When Zayn got to the car he dumped me in the backseat and a small whimper escaped my lips.
The ride to wherever we were going was uneventful so I spent the majority of the ride thinking. I was glad (in some ways) that Polly made us keep our most important things in a duffle bag, so they didn't have to pack for me. The problem is they actually took it.
Besides the obvious emotional wreck I am at this moment, the thought that scared me most is that they were all boys.
The car finally stopped and all the boys hopped out. I hesitated, deciding if I should make a run for it or just go along with them.
Sadly the decision was made for me because the door opened and one of the boys beamed at me.
"Hi I'm Liam and you're Ruby, right?" He smiles kindly at me. Hmmm...where have I seen him before?
"Yeah, um...do I-do I know you from somewhere?" I ask.
"I'm not sure, but come on." Liam motions me to get out and with a sigh I complied.
Without thinking my fears take a hold of my tongue and speak before I can stop them.
I stop walking and ask him something that I didn't mean to say.
"Are you guys going to hurt me?" I ask in a small voice not meeting his eyes.
His face is the exact picture of shock. "What?!? Why on earth would we do that?" Liam asked bewildered. When he saw that I didn't reply he sighed.
"Look, I promise I will never hurt you and neither will the guys." I nodded and continued walking.
I walk with him to the door, I didn't really get to look at the outside but the house was a very light blue. Liam opened the door and walked in, I was instantly in awe. The house was beautiful, although it was pretty much painted in white.
There was huge lounge and the TV took up the entire wall, it was massive!
"You okay, Ruby?" Harry asks, amused. I was openly gaping at the room.
Harry directs me to the stairs and tells me to go up and look for the purple door on the right that has my name on it.
But how did they know that they were going to pick me?
I walk up with that question nagging at me and I soon find and open the door.
"Holy mother of chocolate..." I whisper.
It was like something I've never seen before; it had a huge purple double bed the same color as the wallpaper but the wall had patterns throughout, on the sides of the bed there were pink drawers, there was a TV exactly like the one in the lounge, on the other side of the room there was a purple dressing table. When I walked over to the dressing table I pressed an orange button to see what it would do-
"OMFG "I scream.
