talking

I was sitting on a chair in the kitchen with my elbows propped up and my chin leaning on it. I watched as Dee started singing and crying at the same time. In her hand was a beer and she was bawling her eyes at the moment as she remembered the fresh wound her ex had given her last week.

"MONDAY LEFT ME BROKEN, TUESDAY I WAAS THROUGH WITH HOPING, WEDNESDAY MY EMPTY ARMS WERE OPEN, THURSDAY WAITING FOR LOVE WAITING FOOOOR LOOOOOVE!"

She sang loudly, not caring if she looked like a lunatic with her mascara running down on her face and tears streaming out of her eyes. People were watching us but they didn't give a damn that much since they too, had their own thing. I sighed and stood up, walking towards her. I put my arms on her shoulder and rubbed it at the same time.

"It's okay, It'll get better, I swear. He was a basic a-hole to cheat on an amazing woman like you. I mean look at you, you're smokin' hot! You're everything I want. If I was a boy, I would hit on you right on the spot. He was just a real idiot to waste an opportunity at you."

Dee sniffed and hugged me. "I ain't *hic crying cush of him, I is cri cuz m-my daddy ate my fries."

I sighed as she started singing again. "D-daddyyyy why did you eat mah fries? I bought them n they were mine but you ate theeem yeah you ate my fries! And I cry but you didn't see me cry! Daddy! Do you even l-love me?"

Another batch of tears streamed down her cheeks as soon as she said the word love and I sighed as I continued on rubbing her back. Dexter and her had been going out for six months now and Dex, the douche he was had cheated on Dee last week at a party. Dee said that she saw him in the garden connecting his sword at someone's scabbard. Wow, what a comparison.

"I j-just donut him! I gave him my cotton candy and he took it and just broke it!" She turned her head at me, her face looking like hell and I sighed as I saw how much hurt she was. "D'you has some food? I'm feelin' hungry. *hic"

I sighed again and gave her the donut she had been eating. When I came here into the party I expected myself to be dancing or whatever the hell I could do here but then I saw Deena in the kitchen eating a box of donut and bawling her eyes out and so here I was. I'm not complaining though, I'd always be here for her no matter what.

"Hey."

I raised my head and saw Knox's forced smile as he stared at Dee who was sleeping on my shoulder at the moment. I looked at Knox and forced a smile. "She's having a rough time."

"I can see that."

I nodded awkwardly, running out of words to say. "You need help with her?"

I raised an eyebrow. "You'd be willing?"

"Sure."

I furrowed my eyebrows and smiled. I honestly hadn't expected that he would suggest that. Hell, I didn't even thought that he would talk to me here in the party. I know, I just thought that maybe he was that kind of person who was ashamed to talk on someone not popular on public.

"I actually need help on carrying her inside her car." I said sheepishly and he raised an eyebrow at my statement. "You going home?"

I nodded.

"So soon?"

I smiled with eyebrows furrowed. "Of course. Dee need's to get home and rest."

"But what about you?"

"What about me?"

"Don't you want to stay for a while?"

"What? If I do that I'd have to come back here after I dropped her home. I don't think I'm that diligent. And besides, don't you have Sheena with you?"

He smiled but it didn't reached his eyes. "She's passed out at the moment."

"Ah, so I'm a replacement?"

He stared at me incredulously. "What?! Why would you even think that?"

I shrugged. "Mars." I stared at him at the way he said my name. "I think I'd rather spend my time laughing at your corny ass jokes than listen to her and her obsession with Justin Beiber."

I smirked and stood up, helping Dee to stand up. Knox was immediately by her side and helping me on carrying her. "Thanks, I'm flattered."

"Well you should savor the moment cause I'm never going to talk like that again."

I chuckled and shook my head as we made our way towards the door. Once we were out of the house, away from people's curious gazes, I immediately felt the cool breeze of the air. I inhaled and sighed deeply. Finally! We're out of that house. I hated the air in there.

We immediately headed towards Dee's car. We placed her on the back seat and she continued her sleep in there and I felt my heart squeeze as I saw the trail of tears on her cheeks. With a sigh, I closed the car door and faced Knox who was staring at me.

"So...uh...thanks."

He only nodded and I gave him one last sheepish smile before I headed towards the driver's seat but at the call of my name, I immediately stopped on my tracks and faced back Knox who was looking at me. "Can you drop me home too?"

I furrowed my eyebrows. "Don't you have a bike?"

He shrugged. "I'm not in the mood to ride it."

I crossed my arms. "Why?"

"Because...I want to talk."

"Talk?"

"About things."

"Things."

"Yeah. Things."

We were silent for a minute before he opened his mouth again. "And besides, aren't you my babysitter?"

"I thought you hated me babysitting you?"

"Well not at the moment."

I just chuckled and shook my head. "Whatever floats your boat."

He smiled and opened the car door, sitting on the passenger seat. I let out a sigh as I sat on the driver's seat and starting the car. "You remember the other day? What you said to me?"

"What about it?"

He was silent for a minute before he answered my question. "It was true."

Huh? "What's true?"

"I don't love her."

Ah. That. "Then why?"

"That's the question."

The silence between us was back again. I didn't plan on saying anything soon and neither did he. Somehow, the silence that surrounded us wasn't awkward but more like comfortable. I liked this silence. I turned my focus on my driving as the silence embraced us.

"Mariella?"

"Hm?"

"I kinda liked your babysitting."

And I smiled.
