Of all the terrors that flew through the cosmos, there was none more terrible than H'kahelnyr.

But no one on Earth knew that.

Of all the monsters that haunted the night, there was none more monstrous than H'kahelnyr.

But no one on Earth knew that.

Of all the horrors that stalked amongst the minds of the insane, lying in the darkest reaches of madness and spawning the nightmares that pierce the brittle armor of our sanity, penetrating the darkest recesses in which our worst fears lie, there was none more horrible than H'kahelnyr.

But no one on Earth knew that.

And that was part of what made it easy.

Although the majority of the population was aware that there could be potentially fatal dangers in every dark alleyway, no one seemed to be afraid of them. But what a majority of the population did not know was that a similar danger could come from the sky, and yet the day it happened, everyone kept their eyes trained on the ground as they walked, although no one could explain why.

And it was because they all kept their eyes on the ground that they all lived just that much longer, but that was not such a good thing. If they had looked up into the sky, they would have looked directly into the face of H'kahelnyr, and the flesh would have melted from their bones and pooled upon the ground as a foaming, semi-viscous liquid. But H'kahelnyr would make everyone who saw this happen not care, for H'kahelnyr was master of emotions.

But no one looked into the sky, so this did not happen. Instead, H'kahelnyr descended upon the city and it was as if the gates of hell had opened. But there were no flames, no demons. There was only madness. And it brought out the hell that lives inside us all. The most ordinary people were turned into murderers, killing anything and everything that moved. And soon, the blood that dripped from their hands and stained their fronts was too much for their fragile minds to bear, and for a reason that is both known and unknown, they died. Those who survived the sudden flare of madness were instantly vaporized by H'kahelnyr himself. And though they died instantly, they felt the pain forever, in a sort of post-mortem nightmare.

And sleeping in the dead city, amongst the stench of long-dead embers and the streets covered in dust, lies the invisible monstrosity H'kahelnyr, who lies waiting for that one brave or foolish person who just has to see what lies inside the city.
