My heart stammered with so much unimaginable pain as I watched Devon fall to his knees as they beat the crap out of him. I yelled for them to stop. I tried running to his side. All I could do was watch as he watched me. Blow after blow he received.
Just when I thought things couldn't get any worst. The man my father sent away earlier came back with no one but my mother. She screamed and wailed as he grabbed and dragged her. He dropped her to the floor and she sobbed.
"Here," my father placed a gun in my shaking hands. Confusion colored me in the face as I looked at the coldest man ever known to mankind.
"Choose. One of them. You can save any one of them. Only one." He smirked. No. please. No.
"Don't make me do this. Please. Please I beg of you." I dropped to my knees and begged him. He asked the men to stop hitting Devon and asked the other man to leave.
"You are going to kill one of them. Whether you like it or not." He pushed me forward and I was furious. No. Bubbling with rage was what it was.
"You know what? I will be killing one person today." I snarled. I pointed the gun point blank at my father and looked at him with disgust. "That will be you". I narrowed my eyes as I watched the other men at the back smirk at me as if they were mocking me.
The sunlight pouring into the warehouse made everything clearer. The faces of all these people in this shithole had lives. I wasn't going to be the one that deciphered who got to stay longer and who didn't. The only person I was going to decipher would be my father's life.
"Devon. Get everyone out. Now." I looked at his injured self but he looked at me determined and stood up courageously. He stumbled to the side and started limp-running to where Will was.
"Honey. You don't have to do this. You said you loved me."
"I did, didn't I? That was before you molested me. That was before I knew you were a demon. Before I knew you killed people for money. You raped them of their pride. You acted as if you were God. You hurt people and you don't give a shit about it because you are a sadist. That's it and that's that".
After all I uttered, all he did was smile cockily and laugh. He laughed. Who did he think he was? I examined the gun I was holding. It was unloaded. He gave me an unloaded gun. Shit.
I looked to the ground and saw the gun Devon was holding earlier. I threw the gun with all the force I had left to my father and it hit him right in his head. As fast as he burst into laughter, he changed to his angry state in nanoseconds.
I ran and grabbed the gun on the floor, thankfully this was a loaded gun. I aimed and pointed it to my demented father. No escaping now.
I smirked. I had my father cornered. All the men beside him couldn't protect him. Just as I was about to say something else, I heard the door fly open and I smiled knowing Devon got all of them out. My wailing and hysterical mother was one of them. I smiled and cried happy tears for once. Just seeing them leave felt like heaven. Devon stood at the doorway and stared at me for about a minute before nodding and mouthing a 'I'll be back'.
I stared at the cold men in front of me. My father looked dazed. He stared at me with icy eyes. The men behind him were unfazed. They gave me glares and one by one took their guns out slowly.
"Drop them! Or I'll shoot!" I yelled.
The familiar blaring sirens made me grin once again. Suddenly the windows were smashed in by a SWAT team, I reckon. They wore black suits like in movies and they swooped down. My father completely shocked stared at them open-mouthed. I smiled as I saw them corner my father. Just as I thought I was finally free I heard a loud gunshot fill the warehouse. It echoed like a mantra. I was confused. Who the hell got shot?
All eyes were to me as I looked at my father pointing a gun towards me. I saw Devon run in but it was all in slow motion as a few guards pulled him back. I then realized why my body felt cold and wet all of a sudden. I looked down and saw the bullet hole below my left breast. The blood gushing out of me felt surreal. I didn't feel anything and suddenly all I felt was the cold chill that ran through my veins. I touched the hole in my body and looked at the blood on my fingers. I took one more look up before I felt the ground against my head for the hundredth time.
My father had shot me. As my eyesight started to blur, all I saw were the men surrendering themselves and my father being pressed to the floor. I saw Devon running towards me.
Then I fell into a deep sleep, in complete darkness. I felt no pain, only darkness.
Complete darkness.
