"I don't know why you want me to go to this," I complain, Leah's fingers zipping her dress onto my body. Considering the event her boyfriend has to attend, and she is his plus one, was tonight, she begged me to come after her boyfriend told her it's mainly all the football players there. And Leah being Leah, doesn't want to be alone in a room full of guys.

"Because you have been my best friend since we could walk and I need you, Emma. No way will Owen be by me tonight and I don't want to be in the corner alone," she claims, sitting me on her bed.

"Now, I'm going to make those blue eyes pop," she grins, my eyes closing as she does my make-up.

"You're buying me coffee tomorrow for this. And all my drinks tonight," I say, her lips releasing a laugh.

"Deal," she grins, my make-up soon finished. After, she turns me around and moves my brown hair into curls.

"There you go, you stunning girl," she grins, hugging me from behind.

"You owe me," I say, her lips curving.

"I know. And I love you for doing this with me, my sister from another mister," she says, kissing my cheek. The girl is literally a sister to me.

Leah puts on her heels and I put my flats on, hating heels more than ever. I'm average height, so the need for heels isn't worth it to me. Soon we're on the road and we leave the car, her body walking beside me. But not for long, since she's running and jumping into Owen's arms. The two have barely dated for three months and they literally go at it every night.

"Hey Emma," he says, my hand waving but they go back to kissing each other. I sigh and walk into the gala, getting the ticket scanned and walking into the hall.

Men stand everywhere and I regret not dealing with my hatred to heels. I'm at least eight inches shorter than all of these men and I have never been so overwhelmed by testosterone before.

"Hey, sorry about that," Leah says, her hand grabbing my arm and hooking hers through mine.

"It's alright."

I've grown accustomed to the sudden outbursts of affection the two lovebirds display to each other. Especially since Leah and I are roommates and her boyfriend is over for a sex fix after practice every day.

"Let's get you a drink," she says, my lips curving. We stand at the bar and I spot a few girls here, mostly with their dates.

"Now, we have to find you a man here," she winks, my jaw dropping.

"That was your plan this entire time? To find me someone?" I ask, her lips beaming.

"Of course. You haven't dated since Johnny and that was senior year in high school. We are seniors in college. That's four years. Four! We have to find you a man," she says, my lips releasing a sigh.

"Come on. There's Rex, Tyler, Fender, Nick," she lists, but I shake my head.

"I don't want that right now," I say, but know I'd be interested in trying. Of course I would, but my normal quiet self makes me nervous around guys. I haven't had a strong relationship since Johnny, and I don't know if I could again.

"How many teams are here?" I ask, her fingers setting a ten on the bar.

"Two. The soccer team and the football team," she says, my head nodding. I receive a drink and drink it slowly, nodding in like to the taste.

"Oh, I have to go wish Owen good luck. They're announcing captain and he hopes it's him," she says, rushing towards her boyfriend. I turn back on the bar and stir the drink with the little straw in the glass, my eyes flickering to look at the numerous bottles of liquor on the wall.
