Life of Love
I was born of love; I was born of hunger; I was born of dreams –
and in that love; I ate, and I slept, and I grew.
It was a time of dreams, of not yet memory,
in which I crawled, and learned to walk.
I heard ‘I love you’ everyday, from parents, family and friends –
and in that coccoon of love, I roamed, and I ran, and I railed.
Against the unfairness of that coccoon and its smothering love.
Yet I relished love’s protection, for when I fell I was loved.
I said ‘I love you’ everyday; and some heard my words,
and some only saw my face and some only wanted to possess me.
Some said ‘I love you’ everyday, and oft I only heard the words,
and could not read their face, and when I fell, I was loved.
I came to saying ‘I love you’ in the quiet moments,
I came to crying ‘I love you’ in my secret moments,
and some heard my words , and some heard my cry,
and some heard my need; and some heard only their own voice.
Now I love!
and in that love I live; and in that love I dress myself,
and in that love I walk, and of that love I drink!
For tomorrow is a dream,
and yesterday a memory;
and today,
I am love.
