Flashback
"Mom, can I go over there?"
"No, sweetheart. Never go into alleys... especially on the Isle of the lost."
"But that boy looks sad... it doesn't look like there are any guards in there and you always said 'Never go into any place with guards. The exceptional places are castles...'"
"Okay sweetheart, you can go over there. But keep where I can see you okay?"
"Okay, mommy."
"Not so far dear. Claire... CLAIRE!"
Present
Those were the last things I heard from my mom before the guards told her she couldn't go to where I was. Something about a villain's kid. The moment I went out of that carriage and I saw the boys' colors, I knew he was Cruella's son. What I didn't know was that I was going to be stuck on the Isle of The Lost for the next 12 1/2 years of my life. I figured 'I'll just cheer him up then go back to the carriage with mommy.' Boy was I wrong.
Hearing my mom scream for me, I wasn't paying attention. She does this all the time when she calls for me. Also, I know what you're thinking. Why would this little Auradonian girl want to cheer up the villain's kid? Well, I like helping people, okay? It's kinda my thing being Rapunzel's daughter.
Was I born with the healing hair? Yes and no. My mom told me that when I was little she cut it off so those evil people couldn't use it as hers was used. But even though hers can't heal when it's brown, mine can. And it also grows when I heal so we're constantly cutting my hair. Speaking of my mom, I'm really surprised she didn't use her frying pan on them to get to me. She probably did, it was just too late.
What surprised me, when I was little, was that the boy that I was trying to help, Carlos, wasn't even crying. I guess he saw a pretty carriage and saw this as his opportunity to steal from an Auradonian kid. I just don't understand why he would steal from me. A little girl especially. We have so many things a boy would want.
I forgave him though. We became really good friends. Ever since then, I've been forced to live out my days as a Villain's kid. My secret identity is being Mother Gothel's daughter. God, I hate her. But it's the closest thing I have to my story.
I met the main villains' kids and told them this made-up story. Unfortunately, they noticed that she had been brought back from the dead to live on this Isle. Jay says suspiciously, "She never told us about having another kid."
"Oh yeah, she's just really kinda ashamed of me."
"Why?"
"I got brought to Auradon when the soldiers found me because they didn't know I was hers. Thought she'd kidnapped me like m- like Rapunzel. I stayed there for a while but when they discovered I was hers, dumped me straight here with no remorse whatsoever. She also thinks I resemble one of those preppy dorks in Auradon since I was there for some time."
"So you've never been here before," Evie asks.
"Not specifically in this area. I tried to stay in one place since I knew no-one and when I tried to get out there, I was so foreign to these 'conditions' you guys call normal I reverted to my introverted self."
"We haven't noticed you for a full 11 years. Wow, how in the hell?" I flinch at the word Mal says. It's gonna be hard adapting to the lifestyle but I think I can do it.
Carlos accompanies them by saying, "You sure are in for a treat."
What is he doing?
"I'm actually kinda excited to be on the Isle with my mother. I feel like I'm gonna have a great time." They glance at each other and start laughing hysterically. "What? What's so funny?"
Evie responds by saying, "Nothing, it's just that; You came from Auradon to the Isle of The Lost expecting something good. And growing up there won't be much help if you wanna have fun."
"And the ONLY way to have fun here is to steal. Among other things." "Hey, I can steal. See?"Claire takes a passing by-er's hat. They stop to buck at her and she flinches. They snatch back their hat and Claire jumps once again. The others look at her in a we-told-you-so kind of way. She's embarrassed. "I'll get the hang of it soon, just like my mother. That hat wasn't even stylish. I'd add lots of things to it."
"We really have a lot of teaching to go through with you."
"Says the boy afraid of cute little puppy dogs."
"They're vicious."
"Sure, whatever you say."
~ Jay ~
What is with him today? First, he's bringing us a new villain chick and now he's flirting with her. That's my job. And he's smiling! We need to have a serious talk.
~ Carlos ~
I just noticed that ever since she got here I've been lying more than usual. A few seconds ago I said we need to train to Claire to be 'more like her mother'. But I want to keep her as Auradonian as possible. I want her to be mine and I don't want her to be changed when I get her.
Bro, what are you even saying? 'I want her to be mine'? Are you out of your mind?! What am I saying? Maybe she just gave me the flu with all her sparkles and stuff. I'm happy here and I don't want a Royal spoiled little girl from Auradon to be my girlfriend. Yeah, just the flu.
"Carlos, Carlos!" I get snapped out of talking with myself by Evie yelling my name. "Are you coming?"
"Yeah but, you guys go on ahead. I'll catch up."
~ Claire ~
"When I get the chance, my goal is to make sure Rapunzel never gets another happily ever after ever." At least it was real enough for them to believe me. I hated talking about my mother like that.
Even though I was stuck on the Isle of the Lost, there were some advantages: Evie makes my clothes, and spending the days with Carlos. After all those years, I'm finally 16.
But this being the Isle of the Lost, of course, there were downsides. Like food, and houses and villains, and seeing the lanterns float in the sky every birthday. No big deal. I'll just reveal to them that I was really Rapunzel's daughter all this time and go back home. They'll take it well. Right?
