It felt like I had just collapsed in bed before my cellphone went off.
"Ding dong, the Wicked Witch is dead! Wake up- sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed. Wake up-" I slammed my hand on the nightstand, making it shudder and dent as my fingers scrambled to grab my phone.
"Hello?" I grouched into my phone.
"I need our silverware polished." Krystal's high pitched voice made a headache appear behind my eyes. "And start cooking breakfast. I want a three course meal. And make sure you pick up our dry cleaning-," I held the phone away from me so I could peer at the time. It was 4:08 in the morning.
"Krystal, your dry cleaning store won't open for another two hours." I mumbled into my phone.
"Gee, maybe you should do something to fix that." Krystal said, and I sighed. "Don't forget that the waltzing classes you have for my daughters."
"It's an entire class of other students, you know." I replied back.
"Don't sass me. And get your jobs done or else." Krystal hung up, and I groaned as I forced my body out from under the warm covers. You'd think I'd be used to this, after three months of them coming back and haunting me at this school. After three months of early morning wake up calls, demeaning chores, and constant threats for my scholarship. However, staying up until around two AM almost every morning to threaten, rob, and once in awhile kidnap a poor kid really put a dent in my sleeping schedule. I swear though, if I didn't get rid of the frustration and anger that had collected through that entire day, I'd do something I'd regret.
However, it was just meaningless. It was like going out and taking a run. It wasn't running a marathon. If there was anything that was beat into my head by my fellow villains, is that getting caught doing nothing to further your work is useless. If you want to rule the world, get caught while being on the throne, rather than in your pajamas at home.
That's why I needed to talk to Courtney. To have a day off, and sit around and drink coffee and talk about plans. She was on the news last week, having captured a few heroes and almost blew up three square mile radius in the Central part of the kingdom. In the end she got a few scrapes and bruises, but had made off with three million dollars and a block and a half of destruction. On the Villain Net, about sixty villains congratulated her on a well done job, even though her plans didn't make it.
I, on the other hand, got one message of 'kid, are you going anywhere,' and 'robbing banks isn't a healthy pastime'.
I needed to do something. And fast. Otherwise my reputation would go down from a Super Villain to a... common thief.
Which really irks me.
Getting dressed in a pair of old ratty jeans and a t-shirt which I had slightly modified, I grabbed my backpack and left my apartment. It was still too freaking early in the morning. Even now I could still hear police sirens in the vague direction of the museum which I had broken into earlier this morning. And it was still too dark out. The sun hadn't even started to turn the air blue, and the sunset was almost two hours out.
I took my time going over to campus. Although I stay up forever, I never really appreciate the timeless feeling you got in the middle of the night, where you're finally all alone and it seemed like nothing could touch you.
My breath was steam as it touched the air, snow covered the ground now. I didn't have a jacket on, because even though I love my warm bed, the cold night air was an experience that I always enjoyed. Yeah, I shivered, but I really didn't mind the cold as any other girl might.
Then I heard the slight flutter behind me.
After being a villain for a few years, you get this second kind of sense. The kind that a normal person wouldn't think twice about, the small sounds, sights, and tastes that reminded us that danger was always near.
