Chapter Three

Just as her aunt drops Daphne off, she makes a quick prayer to herself, hoping that none of the teachers are Wesen. Or the students, or as her aunt calls them, her "new friends". She hasn't even stepped inside and she knows there's trouble.

In the basketball court, she sees some older kids, about eleven, picking on a boy her age. They keep pushing the boy and taunting him, holding a book above his head.

"Give it back!" the boy says jumping up.

"Only after you kiss my ass you little baby." says a tall fat blonde. "Are you gonna cry? Is Baby-Boy gonna cry? Oh look here everyone, Baby-Boy's gonna cry!"

The boy, however, does not look like he wants to cry. He looks so angry he probably would've punched the bully right in the face. If he could have reached that is. Instead he turns away from me so I can not see his face and he just screams at the top of his lungs. The bully looks so shocked that he drops the book and backs away from the boy.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" he asks the boy. The boy just continues to scream until teachers come running outside.

"Stop!" a woman in a blue shirt comes between them. Daphne decides that is her cue to leave.

---------------------------------------

She stands in the office door awkwardly for about five minutes before the secretary looks up and asks what she wants.

"I'm new here and I was wondering where I go." she replies.

"I can help you with that." a voice says.

Daphne looks up to see the woman with the blue shirt.

"I'm Mrs. Cronan, I'm the Principal." the woman says smiling. "And you are?"

"Daphne Teston."

The woman's expression darkens slightly, and Daphne sees the slightest change in her eyes colour. But only for a moment.

"Just come into my office Daphne." Cronan's smile looks more menacing than welcoming now.

This cannot be good, Daphne thinks to herself.

"You can just tell me what class to go to, I'm sure I'll find my way."

"Oh sure," she says. Phew, that could have ended badly. "But," Uh-oh. "We need to get a few things sorted first. Just come, it will only take a few minutes, you won't be late."

With the secretary watching, she had no choice but to obey. She follows Cronan into her office.

The room is large for an office, with grey-blue walls and a wide window behind the desk. On the desk sits a nameplate, a pen and paper, and a small potted plant. The plant is withering and dead looking, with dried up leaves on the desk and floor.

"Please," Cronan says. "Sit."

She looks at the dark green plastic chair that sits in front of the desk. Some unknown liquid is on the corner of the seat. She takes a closer inspection of the substance. It's red, dripping onto the floor. Blood. Daphne's insides squirm. She hears a click behind her. Turning around, she sees the principal locking the door.

"We have been waiting for you for a while now." Cronan walks over to the window, pulling the black curtains shut.

"We thought you had died with your parents, all those years ago." A chill of fear prickles up her spine.

"But," she turns around to face Daphne. "Here, you, are." Cronan says those last three words very slowing, letting them sink in.

Daphne was in big trouble.

"Well," the principal rounds the desk. Daphne begins to back up. She trips over the chair, falling onto the floor.

"I guess it is time you join your parents."

The woman's eyes turn completely black and spider-like fangs protrude from her mouth. She grabs Daphne's leg with a clawed hand. She pulls back as hard as she can, but the woman's grip is firm.

"Your dear uncle isn't here to save you, is he?" she hissed. It was true, her uncle was always out of town for some reason or another.

"Or your disgrace of an aunt, marrying a Grimm."

Cronan begins dragging Daphne backwards. She is finally over her shock and she screams at the top of her lungs.

"Help me!"

The principal puts a hand over her mouth and pins her to the ground with her knees. All of a sudden, she wasn't in the office anymore. She was in a dark forest under the Monster Man. She squeezes her eyes shut for a moment and opens them. Cronan has replaced the Monster Man and is above her, hissing. Daphne turns away and closes her eyes shut. A rough hand grabs her head and forces her to face upwards. She opens her eyes to see the creature with their arm raised knife in hand.

Suddenly, the Monster Man slides into her vision. No, it was just Cronan, he couldn't be there. But, he remained, his transparent image overlapping the creature's above her. Then, in unison, they bring their hands down, just as the door bursts open and the secretary rushes in.

"What on earth?" she stands in shock for a moment. Cronan's hand is frozen in motion, the tip of the blade grazing her throat.

"Leave, and do not speak a word of this or else you will die." she threatens. But the woman yells out for someone. The cool metal of the blade is removed from her throat and the principal hurls the knife over to her. It stabs her in the throat. Her hands go up to her neck as she falls to the ground in a dead and bloody heap.

Cronan stands up and runs into the hall with amazing speed, leaving Daphne alone with the dead woman. She crawls over to her and pulls the blade from her neck. She thinks about running away at first, but then it dawns on her. She could try to get rid of whatever Cronan was. But what if she didn't come back?

A woman's scream echoes through the school. And then another, and another until all she hears is the frightened and pained screams of others.

Out of nowhere, Cronan appears above her. She hisses and grabs her by the neck, pushing her against a wall, not noticing the knife in Daphne's hand. She struggles for breath as Cronan squeezes harder and harder. A small tear exits her eye and she squeaks a bit.

"Now you can join your parents." Cronan says.

"Well," Daphne grips the blade. "Now you can join the devil."

She trusts the blade upwards into the woman's gut. Shock appears on her face as she morphs back into her human form. Daphne stabs her again and again, until Cronan falls to the floor.

"You're just a child." she exclaims.

"And you are just a monster." she replies. She brings the blade down on the woman's throat, blood splattering onto her face.

She sits in silence for a moment.

She had just killed a person.

No.

She had killed a monster.
